well there's quite a lot of energy involved, if the planet its self is not very stable it might destroy it.
however earth would probably survive such a collision, and your cozy cenario would take place
and maybe more than just a couple thousand yeรคrs.

Oooh, awesome... This reminds me of a scenario I created to write in, wherein an asteroid had impacted a moon and made the moon impact he planet... and interestingly enough, the title is even more fitting, since that wiped out the life on the planet, but little microorganisms on the asteroid started new life ^^
