I was thinking, maybe when Chara died Asriel took her soul and such, but a while after her death she was set to a save file from her determination, no longer with aΒ soul because Asriel had absorbed it?

okay, I think the black half of Ace's soul, is his 'big sis's' soul, it would explain so much. How he is more powerful and it must have helped him to overcome his problem with magic, its the only thing that seems to make sense, as to 'how' it happened I think that maybe she was close to dying and offered her soul to Ace to save him and live on through him
