Do you use a scanner or a camera to upload the drawing?
My problem is, I draw too lightly, and the scanner never picks up on the lines.

I do not have a scanner, so I usually use my phone! 
I had the same problem, but working with light and contrast in PS you can solve this. Now I use to redraw all my works in photoshop, so I have no more the problem of the lineart! 
It take a bit of time to make good lines, but it's worth it
