Description
A Warhammer 40k Comic Concept sketch I made a while back. I currently have no intentions of realizing this project, but the story behind this sketch goes like this:
During the last decades of the 41st millennium, most of the Segmentum Pacificus started to descend into chaos while the mass Imperial disorganization started to show itself as time went on, and mass reorganization of major parts of the Segmentum had deemed itself to be a necessity.
Lord Commander Rendul Svafger (on the Left), the Supreme Commander of all Imperial Forces in Segmentum Pacificus had decided to put matters into his hands by personally overseeing reorganization efforts in major systems, and other systems which were under the threat of becoming a frontline system soon (however these visits, in particular, were usually just to boost morale among the guardsmen).
This time however an exception had been made with the newly conquered world of S'eria, which was under Eldari control just until recently.
Upon arriving on the planet, The Lord Commander was welcomed by a crew of high-ranking officials, led by Lord General Gregor Tawl (on the right), who quickly informed the Lord Commander about the situation on the ground and the state of the local population of 5 Billion Eldaris, which in his opinion, would make the perfect slave force for the future operations within the Sector.
Lord General’s briefing to his superior continued, as he led a tour of the nearby military facilities and concentration grounds, filled with thousands of Eldari prisoners.
Following a brief discussion with his nearby advisors, Lord Commander Rendul Svafger started to inform his subordinate of the greater picture: S'eria was supposed to be transformed into a Military Base with no place for civilian infrastructure within only 7 Solar months. And since 5 Billion Eldaris would not all fit for hard labor for this military installation, would mean that not everyone on this planet was needed to stay alive. According to Lord Commander’s rough estimate, at least 2.5 billion Eldaris are required to be purged within the next 7 months, without causing massive damage to the planet itself. “Let it be quick, smooth, and clean”, Lord Commander ordered, “we need you to purge out the weak, in a way that would not stall any construction efforts in the future”. It wasn’t a great duty by scale, but it required expertise given the time limit.
While Lord General Gregor Tawl did not question the nature of this order, because of his attitude, Lord Commander suspected that his subordinate was not ready to exterminate 2 billion souls through conventional means. All of a sudden, Lord Commander abruptly pulled one of the Eldari prisoners nearby by her hair and tossed her in front of Lord General, telling him that his career in this Sector was dependent on him executing this random Eldari without a hunch. Realizing his position as the Lord General was at stake, Gregor immediately pulled his pistol out and pointed at her head. The Eldari didn’t respond to him and seemed to be at peace with the situation she was in. While kneeling, she started a quiet prayer. (The Picture is depicting this precise moment)
While getting ready to pull the trigger, Lord General taunted her: “Yes… You better pray to whatever clown you’re worshipping, you damned vermin”. Without looking at him, or even without opening her eyes, the Edlari mutters:
“I believe in the Emperor of Mankind, sir.”
The Lord General was so baffled that he literally forgot to pull the trigger, those around him ended up sharing the same appalling reaction. After a brief moment of awkward silence, the Lord Commander started laughing his lungs out, so much so that he ended up coughing violently. When he got to himself again, he questioned those around him whether or not what he heard was real. After a very brief interrogation about her beliefs, the Lord Commander only ended up receiving vague answers from her.
As a result, he once again ordered Lord General to shoot her. And when he complied with the orders again, the gun jammed. The Lord General tried to unjam the gun and then fire it again, just for it to jam again. He ended up getting into a struggle with his gun as a result, repeatedly trying to fire the weapon.
The Lord Commander stared at his subordinate with doubtful eyes and decided to pull out his own gun and finish the job himself. His hopes of seeing the Eldari laying dead on the ground were delayed once again as his weapon too jammed. He looks at his weapon, then at his subordinates around him, and finally at the Eldari again. He noticed that she still didn’t react to the guns pointed at her jamming, just sitting on her kneels, merely submitting to her fate.
Lord Commander put his gun away and turned to Lord General, telling him that he could keep his post on S'eria while adding to him to “keep an eye on this one”.
This action however would end up having ramifications beyond the scope of anyone.
