"Boohoo, society is unfair to me, so I must make sure I'll never get a foot in the door again!" seems to be written all over his face.

Oh c'mon miss.
Don't you have anything to say about
the actual picture?
Instead of saying something rude
based on pure assumptions of him
and his supposed "place?"
You can do better then that.

To me, a photograph is merely a vessel for its content, and that's what I comment on.

Fair enough I suppose, but I don't
think the artist appreciates it.
There's enough of it already there.
Sometimes things are better left unsaid.

For one, it's not my task to know in advance what kind of comment the artist appreciates. Also, this is a very liberal platform where worse things can be, and have been said. If an artist can't deal with that, he should deactivate the comment function altogether as mindless praise is not something everyone likes to engage in.
Art, especially art with a message or a meaning, will always elicit divided comments. Mindless praise in art only makes sense in kindergarten to encourage kids to be confident about developing themselves. Adults need to be able to deal with dissent as long as it doesn't get personal and nasty.

I don't think anyone appreciates getting a comment like that though- it's sort of common sense.
Though I agree, mindless praise, etc. But I didn't tell you to mindlessly praise them.
Just a black and white negative comment about people who haven't meshed into society isn't really awesome to get.
I dunno, just irked me.

looks more confused and tired rather than sad
the messiness adds to the overall idea[whatever it is], but I think it would have been better without the bandana

Very impressive photo! The eyes are the most powerful thing in a face expression, and his eyes tell the whole story. Very well captured!

I am guessing he is a Veteran- the pain in his eyes is that I have seen so many times, from those who saw horrible things, that we who remained home, safe AND sound, can't even imagine. My cousin said he felt like the walking dead. Please don't judge what others do to get out their message....often, the words cannot or do not come, or are even allowed to come!
This does say it all...hugs and love to all servicefolk!

i dont understand how some 1 can "regret it one day" considering hes already an adult. so id assume he has a job, or at least a job that doesnt care much about tattoos in the first place. second, the longer its on u, the more of u it becomes, especially if it is ur identity. id rather have this than a swastika or a gang symbol.

Not everyone has the same society-dictated idea of beauty or attractiveness. If he felt strongly enough about the tattoo to get it, then I imagine he will never be unhappy with it (that would have taken a lot of hours, and would have been really painful to sit through - anyone not committed to it would not have stuck through it).

Uhm talking about in 40 or 50 years time when his grand kids look up at him and say "grandad, wtf is that on your face", People do very silly things because they're in a certain mind-set at the time, but then they regret it later on in life when their opinions and things change.

maplebee In reply to Oddity-1991 [2012-07-22 19:09:30 +0000 UTC]
I imagine they'll just be used to seeing their granddad that way and might not think much of it. This is also assuming he even has or wants to have kids.
People do do foolish things, but tattooing one's face would take so much time and be so painful to sit through (and is such an extreme thing to do in our society) that I really doubt it was done as a knee-jerk decision.

What? Lighten up a little. Did you even watch the video in the link? It's a guy with same tatoo who appears to have got it on a whim. He's acting like a fool in the video, that's why I called him an arsehole. God damn as if need to explain this! Most people would just infer it.

That's not him. And if they have taken it, they must have thought about it for a long time (well, probably). But I agree that it's just absolutely horrible.
