Description Here my OC Wiesli running.
I try so many like this I can, because I wanna make such good animations all buy myself without the idea of an existing animation.

This form of animation is original from WolfΒ΄s Rain.
The line art is my OC Wiesli, a weasel-dog-crossbreed.

Just enjoy

Um. This is awkward. Did you use to be greaseysalvador? Because if you did, I talked to you about being on of the animators on a film I am working on. I went to send you a note to see if you were still interested, but when I checked the last note your name had changed and it said you left dA. Please let me know if you're the same person and if you still want to work on the project. Thanks.

Hi, yep I am the same person. I had trouble with my old name and changed it, but I made a mistake on it and because of the reason there is only the chance to change it all 6 months, I deleted my old account. The old stuff partly is here now, but old things are still up, so when you search for them, you will find them still. You just canΒ΄t comment there because the account is deleted. Yeah I am still interested.

Only that we have almost the whole staff now, maybe, and the new animator that's interested is in school so we may have to work out a schedule so she can join team. She's letting me know next week if she can or not.
And we still need an effects animator.

How many people do you have now?
It was so long time ago we talked about all of this.
What exactly is my job now on this?

AshWolf-Forever In reply to MrWolf86 [2012-05-26 13:19:21 +0000 UTC]

That's why I asked if you wanted the info again. 1 Character Designer (filled), 3 Animators (still looking), 2 background artists (filled) and me who does color of the animaton, editing to backgrounds, and whatever I can. You were one of the animators. We have/had a second one, but I haven't heard back from them for awhile even though they have done some scenes from the opening. As soon as I hear from them and the possible new animator we - you, me, and the other two - can try and figure out who will animate what. And so far I haven't found anyone to the rain, wind, snow, etc. effects.
If you need any more info just ask.

Thanks, ok that was what I wanted to know. Yeah I am still there and I am glad if I can help you. I also hope that I can please you with my animations and so how I understand it, I make the animated lineart, right?
Other people then go to color it?

AshWolf-Forever In reply to MrWolf86 [2012-05-26 18:16:51 +0000 UTC]

Yes. Other people being me. What I do is break the animation into seperate pictures - the frames - color and shade them, then past them to the background, and save the frames as single pictures. Then they are put into my animation software to reanimate them, exported and put into Windows Movie Maker for editing to other scenes.

Moviemaker? IsnΒ΄t that a crappy thing to make movies with?
Well, my movies are made with them, but the quality sucks.
I would try to get adobe premiere, or magix. I have magix video deluxe silver, that is just a light version of the original, but the quality of the movie in the end is much better. I have this program from a computer magizine disk.
Premiere is expensive, but if you wanna make a good quality movie, it is a must!
To save movies as wmv is crappy. Usually you make it as mpeg when I make professional movies. In studios they often also use avis, but that you only can use and play with VLC player. And avis are huge files, but have the best quality.

No problem. I am working with you now, and then I think I should tell you all I know.
I have worked for a video studio once in 2008 and think it could be helpful.
I also once tried to make a city infomercial of our cities here where I live.
I had not much luck with it, but I learned pretty much.

Except for a half-hour (or was it an hour?) short called Zephyr's DJ Party my experience is in music videos and an edited together version of Kimba the White Lion and The Lion King. That last one was made with 2 vcrs and a stereo. Blew the jacks on the recording vcr.

Yes. It crashes A LOT. I am thinking of buying Sony Vegas once the budget has been raised. But for now it works. As you can see by The Windwater Pack Preview found here: [link]
I only use Movie Maker to edit the scenes together - transitions - and titles. Zoom sometimes.

MrWolf86 In reply to AshWolf-Forever [2012-05-26 22:04:19 +0000 UTC]

Aww my browser doesnΒ΄t accept the file, I canΒ΄t watch it, because it does not know how to open it
However I will see more soon
Yeah moviemaker is good for the basics, but it always is better to set all things directly in the final program, because with each rendering you make loss of quality.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AshWolf-Forever In reply to MrWolf86 [2012-05-26 22:10:32 +0000 UTC]

I can't watch videos on my phone either.
I can always re-do the editing in Sony Vegas once I get it. This way I'll at least have an idea what it will look like.
I use DigiCel Flipbook to animate the frames. I only have the light version and I barely know how to use it. But it makes the timing much smother than GIMP and Moviemaker.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MrWolf86 In reply to AshWolf-Forever [2012-05-26 22:17:00 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I think it is hard to make animations with moviemaker. I use only photoshop. There I can make experiments with the flow and the speed, but the problem there is, it just can save animated gives in a limit of frame size. They are not that huge.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AshWolf-Forever In reply to MrWolf86 [2012-05-27 00:34:53 +0000 UTC]

I have no idea of GIMP's limits, but it doesn't do animation well. Its too fast or slow.
Sounds cool.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MrWolf86 In reply to AshWolf-Forever [2012-05-27 08:07:49 +0000 UTC]

I have no experiances with Gimp, never used it, because I never had to. I think it is a more cheap version of photoshop. I only have photoshop elements 6.0 on my pc and the animations are very well. You can make it as fast as you want, there is no limit.
Maybe the CS versions are better, because they also have more options to draw, brush and else. I have CS2 on my old PC, but I donΒ΄t work with it, because it has no internet connection.

AshWolf-Forever In reply to MrWolf86 [2012-05-27 08:15:11 +0000 UTC]

I use GIMP because its free, and I am just learning digital art. I have learned how to do layers and shading now, as well as outlining. All the backgrounds save a couple were made with GIMP in my Backgrounds folder.
Until I am used to digital art I won't spend $100 on a program. Flipbook is used in animation studios so I think I am save there.

Yeah 100$ is pretty much. But otherwise when I see how much money people put into real movies, then I just think, 100$ is nothing atall

AshWolf-Forever In reply to MrWolf86 [2012-05-27 14:07:06 +0000 UTC]

I can understand that point, but any programs bought - or things like a piano keyboard to do most the music with - would be investments in my company not just the movie since they can be used more than once. At least that's how I look at it. If I can use GIMP and it works, even if it takes a bit more work that's what I'll do. The budget for the film - which hasn't been raised but as soon as have my laptop back I'm getting to work on that - is $20, 000. That's most it can be without raising the price to liscense music - I want to use 4 songs if I can. And only half is for production, the rest is publicity. And I took half of it for the music liscensing, since saying "with songs by..." in ads might help sales. Song liscensing is about $1, 100 per song, total. So...
Anyway, I know you can animate animals, but can you do effects like rain, wind, snow and water splashing? Because we still need someone for that and I have hear from anyone I asked.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MrWolf86 In reply to AshWolf-Forever [2012-05-27 14:38:32 +0000 UTC]

I can yep. Well wind is not really visible, but you can see it on the fur when it flows in the wind. That will be shown on the lineart, but also when you do shadings.
That depends on how detailed the characters come out. I have no idea how they shall look like. Similar like Balto, Lion King or more like Princess Mononoke? I have no idea actually.
On most cartoony wolves you donΒ΄t see the single hair or even a fur structure.
Wow that is a lot of money. I think most of it goes to the songs you wanna use. Think that is the most expensive things.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AshWolf-Forever In reply to MrWolf86 [2012-05-27 15:00:19 +0000 UTC]

Great! One less thing to worry about. The wind shows up in moving fur, and trees at times. There is one scene where there is a rain storm with ligtning effects briefly, so there's wind and rain and flashes of light - the last of which is my job I think.
The characters are a cross between Balto and Wolf's Rain, or Shonen Mowgli and Wolf's Rain. Basicly a simpler version of the Wolf's Rain style with expressive faces. The wolves talk and sometimes use natural body language.
I can send you a note with the budget break down which I put together to show investors if you want to see it. It is a lot but the original $7, 000 budget wasn't enough. I'm cutting corners wherever I can but there's only so far I can go.

MrWolf86 In reply to AshWolf-Forever [2012-05-27 17:08:10 +0000 UTC]

Oh ok, that is good, because I like to make natural but still easy to understand characters. With face expressions and body language also. From what I have seen on the first animation about them, they looked very natural, not very cartoony/lovely.
It is good when they are looking very caractersitically like those in Balto, because you get a feeling for the character more easy. But it does not must be like Shownen Mowgli, because those are very easy drawn and they have more young watchers, maybe 4 up to 10 year old children. But I think your story is for older people.

AshWolf-Forever In reply to MrWolf86 [2012-05-27 17:27:22 +0000 UTC]

Very true. We seem to be on the same page if you know what I mean. ArnaTornwolf's animation is a little more detailed then needed, but their english isn't too good so I didn't try to correct it. Its close enough since I can adjust the style in editing.
Yes the story is more ages 10-100 so Shonen Mowgili was just the only other example I could come up with. Balto's wolves - the first movie - and Balto himself are closer, yes, but not quite real enough. The ears are too close together to me on the wolves. Wolf's Rain is very realistic in contrast, so somewhere in the middle but closer to Wolf's Rain. Princess Monoroke was too distorted in my view, but that's just me. Plus at times the wolves were just plain scary.
Did you want a note with the budget breakdown? Or a link to the rough draft of the story?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MrWolf86 In reply to AshWolf-Forever [2012-05-27 18:02:06 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah, just send it over.
Ok, yeah princess mononoke was a bad example, but it was about the fur. On the realistic animes you see more fur hair lines then in Disney-like animation like Balto etc.
To see which one of the animators do the look you want, just make some refs, let people draw them and look who does the job best. This guys will work on the lineart animation then. ThatΒ΄s my plan how I would do it, maybe it helps to get the right look.

AshWolf-Forever In reply to MrWolf86 [2012-05-27 18:21:46 +0000 UTC]

I am hoping to have the main character refs and the body styles done by June. As you can see by my gallery my wolves are usually too realistic, so the character designer will be in charge of that.
As to fur, I want to have enough detail for it to move, but not so much that I'll be re-outlining it forever. Note will be sent as soon as I get the link. Thanks for the advice.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MrWolf86 In reply to AshWolf-Forever [2012-05-27 18:32:44 +0000 UTC]

All right. I would love to make some ref sheets by hand (I am better in drawing by hand, because I have no tablet yet). Maybe I could make them a little bit more cartoony. I am not bad at capturing the style of the original.

We have a character designer, but she's in school and so can't do them until the summer break. I draw by hand too. There are base-made refs and portraits in The Windwater Pack folder of my gallery.
