Chapter 3: He Who Goes By The Name of DeathElisa stared at the white hospital room ceiling. The soft “beep” from the monitor kept her from dousing off in the quiet room. Her body was stiff from the bandages and pain medication. Elisa eyes were un-moving, her mind else where. Finally her mothers voice broke the silence, “it’s a miracle your alive . . . I mean the doctors said it was a brief coma if nothing else, that’s why they didn’t catch your heart beat before.” Elisa turned her head slightly to look at her mother. She was sitting in a chair next to Elisa’s bed. “Please . . . say something . . .” Her mother said finally, her voice catching in her throat. “Ever since we heard you calling, and pulled you out of the ground, you haven’t said a word!” Elisa blinked, then looked back up at the ceiling. “I shouldn’t be alive.” Elisa’s quite voice cracked a little. Stacy blinked stunned as silence filled the room again. “W-why do you say that?” she started angrily. Elisa turned her eyes back to her mother. “I . . felt my self die. I know I shouldn’t be alive!” Elisa’s voice cracked when she tried to yell. She closed her eyes, calming down once more. “And yet here I am.” Stacy stood up and took two steps closer to Elisa. She grabbed her daughter’s face, forcing her to glare into her mother’s eyes. “Don’t you dare say that! You are here under a blessing from God! Don’t you dare tell me you still wished you were dead!!” Elisa snickered. “This isn’t the work of god,” she whispered icily. Stacy let go of Elisa, her hands falling limp to her sides. She took a step back. “Your not acting like your self . . . I’m going to go talk with the nurse . . . Elisa. “ Stacy paused as if to say something, and then left.
The sound from the door shutting seemed to echo for a moment before the monitor took dominancy of the room again. “Calling me the devil is a little harsh.” A young man chuckled from the corner of the room, his hair and eyes as black as his skin was white. He wore a black blazer over a white shirt with black pants. Elisa turned her head and glared at him. “Why did you bring me back? I said I didn’t want live! I was content with dying!!” The man looked at Elisa for a moment. His eyes caught her glare evenly; he brushed his shaggy black hair out of the way with a brush of his fingers. “That is the reason I brought you back, what kind of idiot would choose death?” “So that gives you the right to choose for me!?” Elisa tried to yell, but the medicine was doing its job, she was half asleep and her voice fell apart. Elisa coughed “B-besides, who the hell are you anyway, you appear out of nowhere with your creepy hand inside my chest and then you ask in that creepy voice ‘Do you want to live?’ and now I’m here? What happened to-“ The man lifted his hands. Elisa stopped. “For now, you can think of me as a form of ‘Death’, and as for my name . . . well you can just call me Jason. As for what I was doing with my ‘creepy hands’ you can say I was merely . . . examining your wealth.” Elisa opened her mouth again, but Jason held his hands up. “As for why your mother couldn’t see me,” Elisa closed her mouth fuming that he read her mind, “well, that’s because I didn’t want her to see me, you’re the only one I’m concerned about. I can explain more after you get some rest.” He folded his arms and leaned back against the wall. “Like hell I will you basterd! What did you do to me!?” Elisa managed to yell, but the painkillers were starting to take effect. Elisa was fighting fiercely to stay awake when her mother walked in, “Elisa your friends are here.” Elisa felt her anger receding into the back of her mind as she flicked her eyes away from Jason with a sudden burst of panic, “Send them away” Elisa said quickly. Whatever is going on I can’t let them get involved. “But-“ “NOW!” Elisa’s voice cracked, causing her to erupt into a coughing fit. Stacy gave Elisa a tired look, and then turned to leave again. As soon as the door closed Jason crossed the room to Elisa. “a-am I at least still human?” Elisa coughed through her fist trying to sit up. “For you to be of any use to me I can’t let you die a second time, now go to SLEEP!” Jason pushed her down into the pillow, putting his hand over her eyes. Her body grew cold as a chill sank into her chest. “Stop” Elisa tried to move away, but she couldn’t fight him and the medicine. Soon she was swallowed up by the darkness of a deep slumber.
