“Push!” Tinymint encouraged, a gentle paw on the queen’s side.

A tiny voice cried out, and Silentbreeze sucked in a hesitant breath.

Pain laced through her as another contraction started up.

Quietly, a small bundle was placed by Silentbreeze’s belly.

“A tom” Tinymint murmured warmly as the squeaking mew turned into a sucking sound as it latched on to feed.

Silentbreeze took a peek down, spotting the first born.

“Ryekit” Silentbreeze breathed out decidedly, the name seemed to fit the mewling tan and white bundle.

However, the pain forced the queen to squeeze her eyes shut as another kit was brought into this world.

Tinymint quickly started lapping at this one too.

“What’s wrong?” Silentbreeze breathed out weakly, there was no crying with this one.

“Give her a second” Tinymint spoke knowingly, rasping her tongue along the little kit.

a she-cat Silentbreeze thought warmly, forgetting to panic for a heartbeat.

Wrenflight had mentioned once he had always liked the name Heather

a second squeaking cry suddenly broke out.

Tinymint placed Heatherkit by Ryekit, the two tugging determinedly at her belly.

Silentbreeze felt a wash of pain-free relief for a rabbit’s hop, when the third wave of contractions hit her, almost knocking her unconscious.

“Stay with me” Tinymint growled, pressing around Silentbreeze’s belly.

“Only about two more to go I believe, hang in there, you can do this.”

One more tom later and Silentbreeze could barely breath.

Tinymint placed the new tom next to the others.

“One more to go” Tinymint mewed encouragingly.

However it was the last kit that took the longest.

It felt like a lifetime had passed; multiple times Silentbreeze was woken by strong smelling herbs Tinymint had placed in front of her, trying to keep her awake.

“PUSH!” Tinymint commanded.

Silentbreeze heard herself cry out, the pain was so horrible; she just wanted this last kit out more than anything.

A strong, high-pitched wail joined the queen’s.

“Oh” Silentbreeze breathed out, feeling her breath starting to catch up to her.

“It’s another tom” the queen heard Tinymint whisper, before drifting off into sleep.

“four beautiful kits Silentbreeze” Fireblaze purred lightly.

Silentbreeze had gone into labor while the battle was underway, she had tried to hold off till she could have seen Wrenflight’s face safe and sound, but a vain attempt.

“Yes, Wrenflight will be please to see them” Silentbreeze purred, nudging the smaller darker tom toward a better position on her belly.

It had been this young tom that had taken the longest to deliver. Yet he was so tiny.

Silentbreeze smiled in amusement, all that pain, she thought she was going to hold a grudge toward her own kits for what they put her through.

But one glance at the tiny squirming bodies washed those feelings away.

“Are you going to wait for Wrenflight to get back before naming them?” Moonshine perked up.

“No, I believe I’ve selected names for them already” Silentbreeze replied smugly, imagining Wrenflight’s face when he would find out, serve him right for going off to fight a war without me.

“The tan and white one here will be named Ryekit, The slightly darker tan one, yes with the white paw, will be Fennelkit. Wrenflight had mentioned to me once he liked the name heather so the she-cat will be named Heatherkit. As for the little one here, look at his for-head, doesn’t that white patch look like a clover petal? I think I’ll call him Cloverkit. If my mate returns unharmed we’ll know he’s a qualified four leaf clover.” Silentbreeze giggled lightly, brushing her tail along them.

“May they grow up safe and soundly.”
