Apparently this is kind of an issue here on DA, so here's a short tutorial on how to convert DA Points into real money. <3

*hint: DA takes 20% of your money, so make sure you calculate that in the price of what you are selling or consider having them pay you through paypal instead.

If you use this feature you should make sure use the 100p = 1$ system when selling your stuff (adoptables, commissions, etc.) because otherwise you lose quite some money (however, you do so by using points as a currency in the first place).

Feel free to ask questions and distribute this tutorial in any way you like. <3

FAQ

Can I convert my existing points (which are not shown in my 'Earnings' site) to money?
Technically, it is a possibility. BUT DA has a strict rule against people sending themselves points and converting them, so if you do this it might get you banned. Not fun. Β  help.deviantart.com/927/

Can I convert my existing points (which are not shown in my 'Earnings' site) to money by giving them to a friend and asking them to purchase my stuff (so it goes to my 'Earnings)?
The clever type are we? Yes, technically you can. But still, it might get you both banned from DA. I personally wouldn't do it.

Hey what is this available balance thing? IΒ΄ve made everything it says in here and I just canΒ΄t click the green button because it says that I have to increase my available balance (itΒ΄s currently 0), I really donΒ΄t understand that, if IΒ΄ve received the points by this method what do I do with the available balance here?

if your available balance is zero, there's no money you can withdraw. feel free to send me screenshots of how you did it.

you need to sell stuff to do that. Your available balance is the "money" (points) you can turn to cash.

Question about the premium contenent: the user who receive the points can't see who sent them, but what about the commissioner? Can it see its own transaction on the transaction history? If so, it could take a screenshot to demonstrate he payed for that.Β

They can take a picture of the button afterwards - it'll say "Purchased" next to the deviation after they payed for it.

yes, there is a minimum amount of points you've got to have on it (5$ I think) Β to be able to convert it but you can convert all at once, even it it's a bigger sum.

Using the point system does in so general - that's why it's best to use PayPal directly.

But as far as I know the commission widget itself takes away 20 percent.

I have a person waiting to give me points for something he purchased from me. Does he strictly have to use the Commission Widget so I could convert the points to $ or he can just give them to me and I'll covert myself? According to your journal he has to go through the Commission Widget to make it legal otherwise it would be a violation id dA rules. Such a thin line here and easy to make a mistake...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ms-villeroy In reply to terminARTor [2013-11-25 10:07:04 +0000 UTC]

You can convert them through either the commission widget or the purchase button but the person has to pay through on of there otherwise, if you try to convert them later yourself, it would be a violation.

Is it safe if I post a commission on a journal and ask people to pay me by clicking the premium content from my other pic?

If you had a joint account, is there such thing as converting Money to Points?

See I don't have a PayPal account but my friend does so I would rather receive points for commissions whereas my friend could receive money

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ms-villeroy In reply to Hedgie-Lover-101 [2013-07-18 07:51:44 +0000 UTC]

No, there is not. But if you receive points via the purchase button you can then decide how much you'd like to convert to money and how much of your earnings you'd like to make into points that you can use on DA. Here's a quick screen shot of the important part of the "my earnings page"Β sta.sh/01s42z5n1x59

If you concentrate on the lower left side: convert to points / withdraw by paypal / withdraw by check. Transactions always need 2 weeks to clear, which basically means that you have to wait 2 weeks until you actually receive the money you earned via the purchase button. After that you have three options what to do with your earnings - those are the three I just listed. You can also decide how many "points" you want to convert to "actual DA points" or cash if you click on one of the three option buttons.

I hope this wasn't too confusing. Feel free to ask away if you have any more questions. <3

It was realy helpful, thank you very much
But I've got some questions...Say that I open point commissions and someone does commission me. If I upload his commission with that purchase buton avaible, how do I know that only him is going to purchase the final image? Because I understand that somone wouldn't like a drawing with his character being bought by someone else. Also if someone pays me by donating in a donation poll does that goes to my earnings? Thank you for your time!

ms-villeroy In reply to Jeanne-dArt [2013-07-18 07:44:40 +0000 UTC]

Hey there! I am glad this tutorial was helpful to you <3 i will continue to try and answer your questions:

a) As much as I am concerned there is no way of knowing that only the commissioner purchased via the button. Another person might purchase via pressing the button as well but, since commissions are usually quite a personal thing for the customer (their ocs, a specific setting, etc.) it is very very unlikely that someone other than the actual commissioner will buy the download of the picture. Also you can tell the commissioner to send you a note after they purchase and then just take down the purchase button (edit picture and remove/un-tick the premium content). At least that's how I do it.

b) No, the points you receive via the donation button do not go to your earnings. Which means you cannot convert them. Unless DA changes that (there have been loads on changes in the past two weeks but I think this part hasn't changed).

I hope I was able to help you <3

pst I have a quick question, see since you can only pay once using this, is there a time limit? like for commissions you pay half the amount before and then another half later, does it still work?Β

haha I have no idea if you'll get me XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ms-villeroy In reply to lou2209 [2013-07-13 13:35:43 +0000 UTC]

Uuuum, do you mean if your commissions cost, say, 800p - you can make the person pay you 400 beforehand and the other 400 after you finish. Though you cannot use the same "button" for one person twice. If that's what you mean. You'd have to add a purchase button (400p) to, say, a sample of your commission, and then another purchase button (400p) to the commission piece - for example. Because you're "purchasing a file/content" and you cannot purchase the same content twice in a row. Β Does this make sense?

So, all of my points show up under my earnings tab, but they have all been transferred to me. Would I still be able to convert it? Or would it not work because they weren't used to buy downloads or commissions through the widget?
I didn't see a previous comment or anything in th FAQ, so yeah.
