I really hated Esme, and I still do. Even before it was revealed that she was in it with Olaf the whole time, she just had female dog written all over her face to me. Why didn't Jerome divorce her earlier? In the book he's unaware that his wife's a terrible female dog. In the show he seems like the kind of person who actually knows their lover is god awful, and he just smiles through it all. Smiling through pain. One smile can hide 1,000 tears of pain and suffering. Anyway, I was talking about Esme. Horrendous female dog, Jerome should've swiped left in an instant.

Originally, the word "Ersatz" meant "substitute" or "replacement" in German, in which the word doesn't carry the "inferior, if not entirely phony" connotation it does in English. Also, looking at this particular cover of yours, I take it it's based on the U.K. cover of The Ersatz Elevator, as I see Esme's feet at the top & Esme appeared on the British cover of this particular volume. Finally, is the eye symbol appearing on every 1 of your cover redesigns except The End a reference to the fact that said eye follows the Baudelaires everywhere until The End?

Yep the eyes are in each cover to represent them being chased by Olaf and crew, until the end. As for the UK cover of the Ersatz Elevator, I have only seen the American covers so I'm not sure what your referring to.

Ah, I see.
Were the UK covers illustrated by Brett Hilquist as well?

I'm not sure. Also, September 30, 1999 marked 10 miserable years.
