And the shading... you mean with the half tones?Β It depends on the program, but with the software I use I actually have brush set up which does them automatically without having to fiddle with anything.

Krita , a linux native graphics program.Β It's quite good.
A Windows version also exists, though at this point it suffers from some performance issues and a Mac version is also in development, though I'm uncertain as to it's progress.Β Krita's has an upcoming release which should take care of the slowdown as well as add Animation support, which should be arriving sometime this fall or winter.
