Description This isn't a joke. This will quite honestly be the future of the internet if SOPA or PIPA are passed. This isn't about horny fangirls getting their yaoi, or college hipsters downloading the new Bear Antler album before it's released. This is about basic human rights, not only in the US, but the entire world. This bill has the potential not only censor copyrighted material, but in the wrong hands can censors damn near anything labeled "inappropriate", such as anti-government speech, websites about religion and different cultures, LGBT websites, and yes, porn. I suggest anyone who sees this to go check out DA's SOPA/PIPA debate, and get yourself educated. Know what is happening, and most importantly know WHY you are against or for it. Please do not jump on the hate wagon because everyone else is, or because you'll be denied your SasuNaru buttsecks. Learn what is happening. Learn to back your argument. Fight with knowledge, and not like a troll. Word.

The thing that worries me is that most of the art that I do is fanart. What's going to become of that? And for all of the other people doing fanart? Will we have to remove it? Or will we be fined because it's already there? Or is DA going to be shut down altogether?

Porn gives me much lulz, and I could probably live without it all over the net (though, of course, I have my share of pervy pictures), but the fact that I'm free to access it is what counts.

Youtube will be one of the first to go, followed by any other site where you can post other people's pictures. Facebook, Tumblr... so many sites. These proposals are squeezing out the freedom the internet was supposed to give us in the first place. :/

On the bright side, I don't think these bills are aiming to punish individuals as much as the websites that post the "illicit" images. On the bad side, that means that DA will probably be one of the FIRST sites to go, along with youtube, tumblr, and of course facebook.

I know it sounds kinda extreme, but people's LIVES revolve around some of these sites, for better or for worse. There's obviously the internet junkies (like us) who love these sites, but there's also many people who make things like this their career. Professional bloggers and videographers will be out of business, like "hyperbole and a half" and Jenna Marbles. Many artists also use DA as their portfolio, advertise their work online, or sell commissions. You can guarantee that people will become seriously violent when not just a form of entertainment, but their livelihoods are taken away from them. All because a few multi-millionaire actors and musicians decided to get their panties in a bunch because they had to buy the smaller private jet over the deluxe model due to piracy budget cuts.

Oh yeah, social networking sites are doomed if it goes through. I myself don't have a Facebook or a Tumblr, but the thing is, having the freedom to HAVE one is what counts. Maybe I'm just too damn liberal for my own good, but having the freedom to do what you want on the net (as long as, of course, it's within the realm of legality) is what matters in all of this.

I don't think it's extreme at all, honestly. Sure--like you said--some are just "junkies" who get on the net for fun, but I don't want to see great artists lose their work because it's on DA, which will DEFINITELY be one of the first sites to be shut down.

Now, one thing I'm trying to figure out is that, why would original webcomickers--with their OWN original sites--be shut down if they're already established? And why would ones in the future--as long as it's ORIGINAL--be prevented from making comics? I understand why fancomics would be dispelled from the net, but original work? Or have I misinterpreted what would happen in that area? I'm still trying to figure out all the details.

Webcomics make quite a lot of pop-culture references to "copyrighted material". Like half the gaming comics out there talk about copyrighted videogames and companies like Nintendo or Sony. I think it's gonna get to the point where they're so worried that people are gonna make fan art, that they're gonna shut down ALL art sites. Kinda like McCarthyism, except with less Soviet Russia. But that's just my personal theory. Technically, I don't think the bill shuts down original webcomics, but at this rate they probably will find a way to.

The thing that bugs me most about this is that this will also affect other countries, not just the US. It's kinda embarrassing when your own country starts enforcing its own stereotypes by acting like an all-important big shot and screwing in other country's business.

Omg, I can't wait to see what Anon will do about this bullshit. I'm envisioning snipers in Guy Fawkes masks. XD

Where are you from any way?

Well I don't like this SOPA bill one bit. It does fuck with other countries. This shouldn't be legal!
