umm.. i dunno, it's hard to describe.. my brain is just wired different, ( like i didn't know that. )hmm... when i see a colour, i may not see the colour you see, for example, i once drew a fantastic carthorse and cart and then coloured it in 'deep red/burgundy because i thought it was brown..
so i just get colours mixed up..

ooh no.. i usually get lightgreen/yellow and lightblue/pink mixed up..
i'm not actually sure when they caught it, i guess it was at school, i don't think they knew when i was a kid that it is hereditry through the mothers line, although, women are rarely colourblind, they carry the gene, so it tends to hit every other generation..

Yes, I studied genetics. Many are carried this way as well. Including male baldness
