Description Perilanner hybrid falcon. His daddy was a Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus) and his mummy was a Lanner Falcon (Falco biarmicus).

Olympus E-620, Olympus 70-300mm, Hoya UV filter, hand held.

What a good looking bird. Interesting how there are hybrid falcons. I should have figured it could be done, but I never realized that the different species of falcon could be compatible genetically.

They're hybridised to remove certain traits. The Lanner desnt have the range of the Peregrine, but the Peregrine is larger and more powerful. So the hybrid gives a big strong bird that wont fly too far, so perfect for falconry.

They are both in the Falco family, so that is probably why they can breed. After all mules are made out of donkey and horse cross-breeding.

Of course, that makes sense then. But I didn't know falconry was so technical. Very interesting how sports evolve after so many years.
