This is part of what I hope to submit to Monty Oum's Dead Fantasy III design contest [link]It's (as you can see) a combination of a scythe and a 3-section staff. I really like scythes and have always wanted to see a good fight with a 3-section staff user, so when I was thinking of good weapons Rikku could use, this crazy idea came up.
The design for the scythe blade is essentially one of Rikku's "Thief" blades but drastically enlarged. The spear end is a design I've had for a while for a spear that had the face of a ghoul or something in it. The colors are based on the same colors as the "Thief" blades.
Its obvious "modes" are the scythe and the 3 section staff but it can be used for a lot more. One of the forms there is like a kusarigama [link] where the user can extend the chain at the scythe end and swing it around like a flail. The length of the chain may or may not be "infinite" (unrealistically long) but I still can see it used as a grapple hook as well. Overall it can adapt to many situations.
As for attack spells and such...my tentative idea for Rikku's dress sphere is "Nightmare" [link] which, along with fitting the scythe weapon, may allow her to use black magic and death spells (can't remember FF specific spells right now). For example, she can stab the ground with the spear end, chant (or pray) and summon ghosts or spirits to attack. Who knows, these are all just random ideas.

Anyway, I hope this is a good start and when I have more time (a lot of school work right now) I'll add more details to the weapon and to Rikku. This is still early work so everything is subject to change.

for the sake of anime let's say this works because it's way too awesome but in reality if you swing the scythe in three staff mode without holding on to the section with the blade it would turn in the opposite direction of your target and you'd just bash'em in the head. but as i said, for the sake of anime it would be awesome

Thanks, though who knows, could be a design he just hasn't favorited. I really do want to see this weapon brought to life though, Monty would definitely make it far more incredible than I can ever imagine.

Clearly, I don't think Monty even chose my design, and it's the only other design that I can tell from all of the entries that has a scythe. Feh.
