on closer inspection it looks like it's hotspotting...
Does it cut IR light too? If not, this long exposures let enough IR light through, to make the lens go hotspotting...

The filter does not cut IR light I think...
What exactly do you mean by hotspotting?

I thought so... I already discovered thatCokin ND grad filters have virtually no effect on the picture, when used on my infrared converted body.
"Hotspot" is a term used in infrared photography for an overexposed, low contrast spot in the center of the frame, caused by inproper the lens coating (not intended for infrared use) and the IR filters having no coatings.
Classic hotspots appear on older primes, stopped down heavily (my 50 f1.8 does it at f22 but not at f16), 'recent' hotspots (all ultrawide APS-C lenses) are bigger, and are harder to remove.
Read more about it here: [link]
And btw, vignetting is enchanced in IR, so I think the thing you mentioned about getting more vignetting (which I like actually) may be due to the IR-sideeffect imo.

I used Sigma 10-20mm, which may cause hotspot in IR. And maybe probably even in long-exposure photography, thanks to IR passing through the in-built IR filter... ?

that's exactly my theory. exposures as long as 10-20 seconds will have IR-influence too, even on bodies with strong hotmirrors (basically all Canons and 10+megapixel Nikon bodies). And lenses that are not good in IR, will produce a hotspot in the visible picture too.

Hello! How's your experience with this filter? Is it as good as screw-in filters? Is it convenient to use, like other P filters? Does it leak, like the P007 (IR 720nm filter)? Does it need shading?

Hello!
My experience is such that using similar dark screw-in filter (ND100 and higher) would be probably more comfortable, because this one really needs shading. So if you don't care the price, I would recommend you Hoya ND400. On the other hand, this Cokin enhances vignetting much more, which you can work with, use it for your intention...
What do you mean by the leak?

Well, I do care about the price a lot... As I have the Cokin P system already, the cheapest way would be the P156. But I'm also hesitating between the Hoya ND400 and B+W 110 (which is about ND1000) filters.
Leak? Look at the first picture here [link]
and you'll get it. It's the light from the sides that's gets on the sensor. This is how I've come over it: [link]

Yeah I see, ...well so you already know the answer.
I've come over it in similar way as you mentioned in the journal.

200USD in 77mm at B&H. Sucks to be poor.

This could be a way around it: [link] go to page 11 and read what it says about ND filter 106 (6 stops). B+W 486. Wonder what that would cost.
