Compassion: Compassion is best described as an understanding of the emotional state of another. It is often combined with a desire to alleviate or reduce the suffering of another; to show special kindness to those who suffer. It is often characterized through actions, wherein a person acting with compassion will seek to aid those they feel compassionate for...We went to a slum area in Quezon City for our Gawad Kalinga (in English it means "to give care"). There were around 20 of us and we had a program to help the youth of about 50+ children and teach them basic values and give them the attention and care that they definitely weren't getting from their parents..
I don't remember the girl's name because there were simply too much names to remember in just one meeting. She was sleeping on the floor with her head on my blockmate's leg and it was a touching sight.
I hope this image can touch those who see it into acting to make this world a better place. I know it sounds clichΓ© but we really should try and do so.

Oh I am sure that there are a lot more people out there who are even more compassionate. I don't even know if I am indeed one of those persons. I know I have a lot to improve on.

I've had this picture in my favourite for ages! But I visited the Philippines this year, and we did some building work in Tatalon for Gawad Kalinga. I met a lot of the children as they were very excited to see white people in their small town.
I can't help but think I recognise this girl.

Wow, that's really nice of you to participate in Gawad Kalinga as well. Who could imagine that could happen, seeing someone you saw in an image from a far away country in person yourself. What a small world indeed!

Thank you for your nice words, but what I did was very little. There is so much more to do to help all Filipino's get out of poverty.

Once a year is not as frequent as I would like! I just love the country and my church is involved in a lot of mission work there, so I am coming back again to spend my summer holidays living and working out there with some kids in a local children's home mainly, but probably end up doing other stuff as well.
And we all do as God wills for us to do. He has put the Philippines on my heart, very much so, and maybe he will put something else on yours. It's exciting to think that we all have our own unique path, isn't it?

i really like the picture. at first sight it looks like a "normal" portrait of a sleeping child, taken from the parents or something like that. without reading your explanatory note i would have never thought of this story behind it. the background makes it special to me.

its not that... i am against life or anything... it just irritates me to see people who still decides to have a child even though they can't feed it... its just so sad to see them see how hard life is... with there very own eyes... and with the population of the Philippines is inflating very fast...
