Description Well, I guess I can't make it anything better with my current skills. I wanted to give it some worn look, as the gun itself is pretty old (beretta m9). Used my own marks of D1&MTG (Second Life group that the gun is made for). There will be also some worn spraypainted variants, clean black, chrome one and also some xclusive tribal symbols on the slide and grip. I will later add some attachments like flashlight, rail adapter, suppressor, holster etc. Any ideas about final render theme?

Software used: Luxology modo, photoshop.

I think the modeling is right on the money. I think a light background would be better. Make the pistol stand out a little more. Not to sure about the wear on it. Just does not look right to me. I think the slid wear on the barrel and a bit of holster wear would be good. I think it is the wear on the grip that is off to me. Other than that is love it.

I Agree about the wear on the grip. The metal pieces were scratched in places they usually use to be scratched (took a really old gun as a reference)... but I just couln't get the diffuse and specular map right on the plastic part. I'll practice more. Thanks for your comment anyway, that's what I need

I mainly use an old pair of M9s that was given to me by my father. Great pistols.

First things, do you have global illumination on? Then set your environment to something brighter with a better background. As far as worn gunmetal you should check out the gunmetal shader I have in the assets on luxologys web site.

Well, I'm aware it isn't made exactly how it should be. I still consider myself rather a beginner, adjusting things to make my unexperienced eyes happy I believe I tried the gunmetal shader from luxology website already but well, I wanted to do everything myself from scratch. So I ended up modeling high and "low"poly model, painting the diffuse and specular maps manually and setting multiple lights in random places. Global illumination is off.
Thanks for your comment anyway. I'm going to play with some more advanced renders when I get the other pieces of the project done... The best meme that describes my workflow is: [link]

well your doing an awesome job. The modeling looks great, as far as lighting I think you will find that you will get better and more instant results using GI instead of lights. See link here : [link] good tutorials by a friend of mine.

Well, at first it was supposed to be my wallpaper, replacing a photo of a Glock 17 on black bacground (I like to have my wallpaper dark), but then I actually found it cool :F Propably you are right, but well.. a lot of gun photos are made on black background. I wanted to be cool as well xD

I also like dark wallpapers, but is hard to see black gun on black background
