So yeah, it’s a Steven universe Gem OC. But this one’s a special OC. Let me explain.

“Avarice” as the creature calls itself Is a mutant gem created by accident in the Kindergarten. He is malevolent, greedy, Cruel, curious, and obsessed with absorbing other gems. He is also a very formidable enemy of the crystal gems and one of Steven’s most dangerous Foes.

I don’t have an exact origin for him yet but I’ll do my best tell the story.

about a month before Steven’s meltdown, a storm raged over the kindergarten. During that storm a strange bolt of lightning hit one of the harvesters activating it. It then proceeded to suck the life energy from the earth and created a new gem. But something was wrong... the gem that was created was different, it was distorted...deformed... mutated. It’s mind was erratic, it could not think properly it was almost akin to an animal, almost being. It wandered around kindergarten in search of answers as to what it was, just as the crystal gems and Steven came in to investigate what was going on. When they first encountered him he attacked, the crystal gems responded in kind. But just as they thought they won Avarice’s power kicked In and in one swift move impaled amethyst and absorbed her into his body. This caused him to grow in size and intelligence as well as strength. This both shocked and horrified the crystal gems, seeing their friend forcefully pulled into some sort of twisted version of fusion. Avarice then attacked again this time with amethyst’s powers and weapons and then managed to absorb pearl, which left Steven and garnet as the last two gems standing against the monster. It was only when the two fused did they finally stand a chance against him. They then proceeded to fight and attempt to poof him only to find out that he had regeneration. They were left with no choice but to shatter its gem, once avarice’s gem was shattered he then poofed which then released amethyst and pearl from their forced absorption with no memory of what happened. Steven was mortified by what he and garnet had to do but garnet comforted him. The gems and Steven then returned home with avarice’s shatter gem. But that was not the last they would see of avarice.

so That’s the origin story for Avarice, there’s more lore to come in the future but not right now.

For now I’ll explain his powers and abilities

Mutant gem physiology: being a mutant gem he is a gem with a hard light energy body around it. This hard-light energy body is able to freely shape shift into whatever shape he desires, usually spear like tentacles to impale unlucky gems.

superhuman strength: he’s strong enough to rip through metal and tear other stuff apart. His strength can also increase with the more gems he absorbs.

Super human durability: he has been shown to take blows from garnet and withstand An angry Steven’s attacks.

Super human agility: in his primary state he is quite agile.

regeneration: Avarice Unlike normal gems can regenerate from wounds that would poof a normal gem. An example of this is when back during the first fight when pearl impales him he throws her off and removes her spear from his chest and the hole caused by it quickly seals up. He can also regrow lost limbs as well.

gem absorption: one of his best known abilities is his warped version of gem fusion, which is known as Absorption. This twisted version of fusion is different from regular fusion, in it that instead of coming together willingly like regular fusion avarice takes over the gem completely overriding their will and completely taking them over While assimilating their mass into his own, it’s as garnet would put it “An Affront to fusion“. When absorbing another gem Avarice’s size, strength and durability, he also abstains that gem’s powers, abilities, weapons, knowledge and memories, experience and strength. This is what makes him so dangerous. He is able to also combine the various powers and weapons of the gems he absorbs, making him even more dangerous.

gem regeneration: if his gem is shattered it can reform with time.

weaknesses

gem: even though he is a mutant among his kind he still shares one single weakness just like every other gem. his gem. If shattered it will temporarily kill him. Even though he will reform it will take time for him to reform quickly.

greed: as his name indicates he is greedy and will often take/steal stuff that he wants. This can be used against him as he takes value in the stuff he steals.
