Okay, so in some incarnation or another, just about everyone, at some point in their childhood, was creeped out by The Moomins. I am one of those people (though I loved it for that reason) and as is the case with many of these people, it was The Groke that haunted me. Memories of this incredibly sinister looking thing stood eerily outside Moomin house, just staring, stayed with me.

However, upon revisiting the episode as an adult [I haven't read the book that covers this yet so I'm referring only to the cartoon version] I found myself feeling incredibly sorry for her! All these kids were scarred for life by her. But seriously, it sucks to be the Groke!

The whole reason she turns up at moomin house in the first place is because some little shits stole her suitcase and are hiding out there. Rather than attacking the house or causing a scene she stands outside and waits patiently. But the little douches have no intention of giving it back and Moominpapa has no hesitation in threatening to shoot her in the face with his shotgun should she come any closer. Her only crime (besides being creepy as hell) is killing Moominmama's flowers, but she can't even help that. How much would it suck to have your sheer presence make everything around you die?

So basically here's to the Groke, a lonely woman who just wants some pretty things (and to not have them nicked).
