Description Jessica Rabbit for Battle-Artist (www.battle-artist.com).

This weeks challenge was this fair lady.

I thought about how to avoid just copying directly from the film, and then thought "hey -it'd be awesome trying 2 do a Michael Turner inspired version of it...just to see if i can, and how it'll turn out". Never actually tried to draw like him, but think he was such an amazing artist.
So chose to take Jessica's traits --> HUGE boobs, very narrow waist, sparkly dress and very femme fatale-ish.
The proportions being so exaggerated was kinda doing my head in tbh.

Tried as well to catch a kinda 20's old photograph-sepia feeling.
Most of the film the viewer is left in doubt whether she's good guy or bad guy, so tried to get that feel innit as well.

Btw drawing a gun from front is pretty difficult lol. It's basically like a hole with a handle...how in the world to make that look cool or menacing!?

Well this is a bit of a chancer, cause she deviates so much from the...ehm "real" Jessica, so hope u guys dig it.

Pls pls pls give some criticism, and be brutal! Every little drop is a huge help for me to improve!

This freaking amazing, the only suggestion I have is maybe not to desaturate her dress so much. Other than that fantastic job and I hope you win the battle.

Your welcome, Im glad you enjoyed the tip. I really like this version of Jessica Rabbit. I have seen others attempts at making Jessica Rabbit look realistic, but so far I think you have done the best. I really like how you conveyed the overall feel and emotion of the original Jessica Rabbit from the movie while making her look more like she would if she were pulled out of the movie into the real world.

sry, late reply

Thank you so much. it means a lot to me since i'm pretty new at digital art. Mostly i've just been sitting fiddling around at home with my little pencil drawings.
Also it was a bit'o a chancer altering Jessica's appearance so much. Some haven't taken it that well

Might be far from the real JR. But I like it when people try and draw characters in a different style then what they normal are.
Very cool pice of work, the sparkles seems to step out from the rest of the style. But I can't think of another way to capture then either.

Thanks a lot! It's nice to get approval on this one, since i chanced it pretty much on the style

..Nah...I find colouring in general pretty difficult. But i'm also so new at it..hopefully i'll get there with time
Btw, if u do come up with another way or just something interesting pls don't hesitate throwing me a note or sumthing

It looks good and as I said, I like it when people take known characters and re-do them in diffrent styles.

Hey, thanks

I like your honesty! It was a big chance i took, changing her look or design so much. The colours as well. I think that maybe i went too far beyond regarding colours...think she'd be way more recognizable with much redder hair and dress...oh well, live life on the edge

Taking time to give your opinion is appreciated though

Really - it's seriously awesome that you did such a different style for her. Most people use the conventional look in their fanart, and it just all looks alike, even when it's awesome pictures.

i usually dont do this but after reading some of the critiques i thought i should.i feel that most of the people that are leaving crits are critiquing the style instead of the piece.its why i dont ask for it and i usually dont give it, unless directly asked.yes the waist is small, yes the wrist is small, and yes her boobs are big.but all that comes from the style that you chose for this illustration.it should have been pretty obvious since you stated it in the description. after looking at this piece i only see 2 things i can honestly critique.her neck is to thick and curved the wrong way for her position.it almost makes her look masculine.the second has more to do with color choice.her hair even tho it is beautifully done, by you choosing to make it that lavender color you take away from jessica's identity.shes known for her red hair.keep in mind, you already chose to make her in a none traditional style.that alone makes it harder for someone to recognize the character.if i would have randomly looked at this illustration i would have thought this was psylocke in a evening dress.
other than those minor lil details this is a very awesome piece!hope i made sense..

Honestly, sincerely I'm so happy that u took time to give some input!!!

Every little bit is pushing me forward -and to me that's the most important bit.

I see what u say, and that actually were a major concern of mine --> her not being recognizable as Jessica Rabbit. Simply my skills don't match the ambitions (the same goes for cake for me). It's funny, didn't think about psylocke until u mentioned it, but I can totally see it now haha.

As to technical input. Yours and everyone else's input is valued. I think all the things people point out has a basic point --> i need to get my arse to some croquix classes and get studying some anatomy, and stop being lazy hehe.

Yet thanks again for your critique!

dude your so mistaken about your skills!your an awesome artist!your fundamentals are sound and you got tons of style.its cool to ask for critique, but remember that everybody is not qualified to do it. even tho they so eagerly want to.and that does not imply that i am qualified to give it.the main reason i dont give it unless i am asked directly is because i think to myself, who am i to have the audacity to think that this artist wants to do things my way?
us as artist are always going to be are own worst and best critiques, but its ok to once in a while sit back and enjoy are own work once were done.it doesnt mean were content, and were going to stop trying to learn and grow as an artist.take it from me your stuff is awesome!!

What awesome compliments! Really profound -means a lot to me.
And yeah, as i've alrdy discussed with redskull --> i tend to get VERY obsessive about my pieces. And dunno if u kno the feeling, but I always start out with a clear image in my head of what i want to do, and that's aaaaalways so much more ambitious than what i actually can manage. Plus what comes out in the end never (or rarely) actually resembles what i wanted it to be.
Btw, yeah i can do some anatomy, but seeing people who truly master it gives me that itch to be able to do something like it as well (which i can't atm) --> fx check thsi one out: [link] that was a bit'o an eyeopener for me

Lea, if you haven't already check out Stjepan Sejic's work - I think you'd like it, and he's probably one of the best artists in comics period, I think right now he's on witchblade. as far as your 'jack of all trades master of none' comment....Sejic shows its possible

He did an amazing, amazing Master of the Universe piece at some point too. His covers are just exceptional.
I think my favorite though was a painting he did of chuthula rising...just wow.
