Description
Balder and Hoder were the twin sons of Oden and Frigg, execept that where Balder was beautiful and beloved by all the Asen, Hoder was blind from birth and often left out of things.Balder was a great hero and immune to every possible hurt... except one. So it was great sport for the Asen to throw various things at him and see Balder come out totally unscathed. Hoder, being blind, was not part of this game and instead moped about Asgard, where he heard Loki suggest that he try throwing a little something at his twin anyway--Loki would guide his hand. Hoder agreed, eager to participate. However, he forgot of Loki's love for evil deeds, and the thing he threw was a dart of mistletoe, which pierced Balder's skin and poisoned him instantly.
Hoder was aghast at what he had done and wept in greif, longing to trade his life in so that Balder could live again. But it could not be, and Hoder was killed in turn by his half-brother, because no slayer of kin, however unwilling, could be allowed to live. And so the twins were reunited in death.

I.....asfkdgh;;;...GAH.
*incoherent from the amazing*
I just can't get over how well done their faces are. And Hodur just looks so confused...For black and white piece, the mood is incredible.
Faving. Again. And watching you.
(Though I believe the mistletoe went in Baldur's heart, not his neck.)

I love the story and the characters you used to depict it. It's simply beautiful. This would be even greater with color, too.

OMG. Have I told you recently how much you fucking ROCK?
There is now one (1) soul (mine) payable to the order of you. I mean, really, I love this legend to its punitive, family killing roots. And this is a beautiful, beautiful peice. It's just so... expressive? grieving? tragic?
I love it. I love you.

...all the interesting people die...
and that loki really is mean to everybody! he got kicked out of Nehwon's Godsland. or rather, he got stuck in a magic coma and when he woke up he was so po'ed he just upped and left. this was after he tried to kill a bunch of people, and was stopped by only the barest means.
--don't you love tangents?

Loki is an asshole, yup. That is his purpose in the universe.
IRL he gets tied up deep in a cave as punishment for making Hoder kill Balder, and a snake drips poison into his eyes. His wife catches the poison in a bowl most of the time, but when she goes to empty the bowl, he screams in pain.
Come the end of the world, he escapes and takes part in fighting and killing the Asen, but I think he also is killed himself, along with pretty much everybody else.
Tangents are the best!

i've heard that story! never could remember who it was about, though.
i love tangent, it's my favorite flavor!
...yeh, i should really stop trying so hard.
but since we're already on a tangent...
Odin is a Summon in various Final Fantasy games. usually (as in, in 2 of the three games i'e played) his attack is called Zantetsuken. why does a Norse god have a Japanese attack? i don't know. But Sleipnir keeps getting prettier and prettier, in a scary o-my-god-it's-the-steed-of-the-apocalypse kind of way.
and then there's Shiva, who in the FFverse is a gorgeous scantily-clad blue woman with powers of ice. her attack is called Diamond Dust, and she drops ice-bergs or glaciers on the enemies, or flash-freezes them. she's one of the more popular summons, along with Ifrit (who is a Fire Lion, looks vaguely like a medieval (sp?) devil, has an attack called Hell Fire/Flames of Hell, and pelts the opponents with meteors or house-sized chunks of tossed earth. he's a smoodgy kitty, but you can't say that to his face or he might bite yours off.) if you run a wikipedia search on him, you'll find him labelled as a Djinn. imagine rubbing an ugly dented old bottle and having your very own fire...jinni...thing...pop out of it!
...i don't know why i'm telling you all of this. i blame odin! *runs away*
