Japan hates cartoon characters having four fingers because members of the Yakuza cut off one of their fingerswhen they join. Because of this, having four fingers is culturally associated with the Yakuza in Japan, so when western cartoons are imported to Japan and dubbed into Japanese, they add an extra finger in post, in order to avoid associations with the Yakuza.
