Those are actually my darkened pencils, no ink (my inks make babies cry...), after I play around with the Photoshop adjustment tool post-scanning. I color in Photoshop as well, setting the line layer to Multiply and coloring on a bunch of layers under that.
Hope that gives you some insight into my methods (simple as they are).

oh really! I never have much luck just scanning in pencil.. no matter how dark it is.. never comes out clean looking.
Inking is the best way for me to get that result.. wish I could could get away with just pencils..

A trick that I learned from Toshinho is to really, really, REALLY spend some time cleaning up the scan.
