Description Rainbow Brite, another character from my post-Apocalyptic story pitting characters from 1980s shows against each other.

She's part of the rag-tag rebellion against the industrial dictatorship of Brainy Smurf (aka "The Brain"), and aside from being the obligatory Tank Girl look-alike, she serves as their demolitions expert. She's wild and care-free, and her involvement stems more from her love of blowing shit up than her loyalty to the cause.

I believe I've seen one or two. The one where she comes home and nukes a few of the tiny things, and acts all drunk. That one WAS hysterical.

Oh, yeah! That might have been a Rainbow Brite sketch, though. I don't remember! The one I'm thinking of is when Strawberry Shortcake gets revenge on the Peculiar Purple Pie Man of Porcupine Peak--"I will 'berry' him! And that's not some stupid speech impediment--I will BURY that mutherfucker!" I can't do it justice.

Yes you do! It's about the only funny show left on Adult Swim! Well, besides Venture Brothers, when they have new episodes every TEN YEARS.

They have? I haven't really been paying attention. I saw an announcement for new episodes a couple months ago, but that's it.

Yeah, I need to watch more movies. I miss working at the theater! I used to see everything, or at least all the good parts to every movie (if there were any good parts). I'm big on TV DVD sets, too--I've been buying all the old Ninja Turtle shows--they're so terrible!

MurderousAutomaton In reply to MalkavianFalconess [2010-03-28 18:22:28 +0000 UTC]

Well, Donatello is pretty cool--he was actually pretty much the main character in a lot of those episodes! Raphael's always been my favorite, tough--I really identify with the smart asses!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MalkavianFalconess In reply to MurderousAutomaton [2010-03-29 01:05:32 +0000 UTC]

XD Raph was a smartass. But I just love the tech guy, always, so heh. And Don has the bo staff, my favorite Japanese weapon.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MurderousAutomaton In reply to MalkavianFalconess [2010-04-04 07:25:24 +0000 UTC]

Well, staffs are cool--so simple, but so deadly! I've always like sai, though, but I think it's just because Raphael has them. I don't think I knew what they were before the Ninja Turtles came along!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MalkavianFalconess In reply to MurderousAutomaton [2010-04-08 03:41:52 +0000 UTC]

XD Same here. Half of my Japanese weapons knowledge comes from that show and Mortal Kombat. XD

Sai are cool, but I prefer to use resistance and avoidance, rather than offense. Eh.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MurderousAutomaton In reply to MalkavianFalconess [2010-04-10 07:39:58 +0000 UTC]

Ha, ha! Good ol' Mortal Kombat.

Well, not to get all geeky (even though I'm a geek), but sai mostly are defensive weapons. They were primarily used by Okinawan police to subdue roudy swordsman, since you can easily disarm a sword with a sai. Kind of an ironic weapon for Raphael's offensive personality!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MalkavianFalconess In reply to MurderousAutomaton [2010-04-10 19:47:09 +0000 UTC]

O.o Oh wow. I had no idea! Makes sense, though, the way they're shaped. And I think if you gave Raph something like a katana, he'd do WAY too much damage. XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MurderousAutomaton In reply to MalkavianFalconess [2010-04-12 05:26:36 +0000 UTC]

Ha, ha! Totally. Here's another fun fact about sai: they originated in Okinawa as farm tools, and became weapons for the uprising. They were originally used to plant seeds--the long prong in the center dug the hole, and the two shorter ones spaced out where to plant them.

By the way, did you see that newest TMNT movie--the 3D one? There's a fight scene in there when Raphael takes on Leonardo and totally pwns him. It's totally dramatic, too, like a scene from a fan fiction! The fighting's not bad, but the cheese factor makes it GOLD!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MalkavianFalconess In reply to MurderousAutomaton [2010-04-13 02:57:31 +0000 UTC]

Oh really? That is awesome! I love utilitarian weapons. Like hammers. Very cool!

No, I haven't seen any of the movies based on the TMNT universe. Or any of the Hulk ones, either.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MurderousAutomaton In reply to MalkavianFalconess [2010-04-18 20:09:37 +0000 UTC]

Totally! A bunch of martial arts weapons got their start as Okinawan farming tools, like kamas, three-sectioned staffs, and probably a lot more that I can't think of right now!

Aw, really??? You've gotta see the very first TMNT movie--it's really the only good one. They took the story almost directly from the original comics, so it's dark and gritty. The Hulk movies... you're not missing much. The second one's definitely better.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MalkavianFalconess In reply to MurderousAutomaton [2010-04-19 03:40:38 +0000 UTC]

Awesome! That makes sense. Considering China was one of the first civilizations to change to an agrarian society rather than a nomadic one.

Okay, I will! Or, I'll try anyway. XD I heard the Hulk movies sucked ass. I usually don't bother with the major superhero movies unless the director is good. (Like Batman, and Spiderman.)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MurderousAutomaton In reply to MalkavianFalconess [2010-04-23 03:59:14 +0000 UTC]

I think Okinawa is part of Japan, actually, but they got most of their culture and martial arts from China anyway, so same difference.

Yeah, the first Hulk was absolutely terrible! Don't bother with that one. The second one's worth seeing, but every time Hulk gets going on a rampage, frickin' Liv Tyler's there on the sideline whining for him to stop, so he does. Lame. You don't make a Hulk movie so he can NOT smash stuff.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MalkavianFalconess In reply to MurderousAutomaton [2010-04-28 20:30:48 +0000 UTC]

Okinawa is pert of Japan. Now I'm confused. XD

Oh god, really? Seriously, the line is "HULK SMASH!" Thus, he is supposed to smash things!

MurderousAutomaton In reply to MalkavianFalconess [2010-05-03 05:52:39 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's one of Japan's islands, so it's still techincally part of Japan, if I'm understanding it right.

Precisely! If you're going to do a Hulk movie, do it right! Same goes for Spider-Man 3, but we're not even going to get into that, because it's bad for my blood pressure.

MalkavianFalconess In reply to MurderousAutomaton [2010-05-03 23:34:43 +0000 UTC]

XD Same here! I loved Venom, and all, but god, just kill that director, please? Put the idiot out of his misery.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MurderousAutomaton In reply to MalkavianFalconess [2010-05-09 08:09:46 +0000 UTC]

Oy, I know! The problem was un-solvable, really. Sam Raimi didn't want to put Venom in the movie (he's not a Venom fan for some reason), but the studio wanted him to, because they knew the fans wouldn't like it if he didn't, so the result was a reluctant, inferior version of Venom stapled on the movie by somebody who doesn't even like the character. Doomed from the start.

So either way I wouldn't have been happy. If Raimi had left Venom out, I would have been raging, not knowing how awful Venom would have turned out.

Grr. Really? WHAT A MORON! Venom is Spiderman's NEMESIS. For crying out loud... And he liked THE FREAKING SANDMAN more than Venom?! What a douchepickle!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MurderousAutomaton In reply to MalkavianFalconess [2010-05-10 07:56:05 +0000 UTC]

I know! How can you NOT like Venom? Total dick move on Raimi's part. Too bad, too, because he did a really good job on the first two movies.

By the way, "douchepickles" don't sound very tasty...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MalkavianFalconess In reply to MurderousAutomaton [2010-05-10 08:38:44 +0000 UTC]

I know! I had a running argument with my ex about who was better, Venom of Carnage (Venom PWNS, by the way). Sandman cannot even COMPARE. I mean, he's a good character, endearing and all, but VENOM IS A MERCILESS AMEOBOID ALIEN! It does not get any more goddamn awesome than that.

No, no they are not. It is what happens when you use a pickle as a sexual device, and then don't wash it off. XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MurderousAutomaton In reply to MalkavianFalconess [2010-05-22 18:38:39 +0000 UTC]

Totally! Carnage is cool, but he can't even come CLOSE to Venom in coolness! It did always piss me off that Carnage was technically more powerful than Venom, though. Doesn't really seem to make sense. Besides, Carnage's is just a cheap copy, and remember all those cheesy symbiotes they made after Venom became huge? It was shameless.

...Ew.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MalkavianFalconess In reply to MurderousAutomaton [2010-05-22 21:31:55 +0000 UTC]

Well, Carnage was more powerful, but was less in control. The point of his character was to illustrate the downfall of power when the user has no control. It destroyed him. Same as Green Goblin in the movie. I do agree that he's a cheap copy, though. Instead of creating new villains for Spiderman they just took the same villain and made him more beefy and re-colored (or in some cases, re-gendered...) him.

XD Sorry.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MurderousAutomaton In reply to MalkavianFalconess [2010-06-12 20:29:40 +0000 UTC]

Ha, ha! All rants are welcome.

And that's true. And I did like the idea of Venom and Spider-Man teaming up to stop Carnage--how crazy! I always liked that Venom defended the innocent and punished the evil. Like how he dove out of a window in Maximum Carnage to save a baby!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MalkavianFalconess In reply to MurderousAutomaton [2010-06-12 21:55:11 +0000 UTC]

Totally! But that's what made Venom so compelling, was that underneath the symbiont was just a really good man filled with jealousy. He had inner turmoil, all the best characters do.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MurderousAutomaton In reply to MalkavianFalconess [2010-06-16 04:19:31 +0000 UTC]

Well, I suppose. I think Venom was mentally unstable, and that's probably what made him so cool! Any normal person wouldn't become a homicidal maniac just from jealousy--at least I hope! They did kind of re-brand him as a noble hero with that whole "Anti-Venom" schtick, which is kind of lame. He's all white with black accents now, and his face looks more human. UNACCEPTABLE!!!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MalkavianFalconess In reply to MurderousAutomaton [2010-06-16 04:59:51 +0000 UTC]

Oh totally. And the simbiote pushes him to even more malevolence. (We've been over this with Batman villains, all the coolest villains are always psychos hehe.) SERIOUSLY?! Color-wise, that sounds cool, concept-wise, that sounds retarded.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MurderousAutomaton In reply to MalkavianFalconess [2010-06-20 01:15:52 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I wasn't too happy with Anti-Venom, either. Venom was a villain first and a hero second--it should stay that way! And he probably doesn't look as cool as you're thinking--they change his face so it's more human/skull-like, and his eyes are normal size. Lame.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MalkavianFalconess In reply to MurderousAutomaton [2010-06-24 03:49:22 +0000 UTC]

Ahh, that sucks. I meant the color combo sounds cool, but with the more humanoid features? Suck.

MurderousAutomaton In reply to MalkavianFalconess [2010-06-28 20:03:58 +0000 UTC]
