Description
Rainbow Brite, another character from my post-Apocalyptic story pitting characters from 1980s shows against each other. She's part of the rag-tag rebellion against the industrial dictatorship of Brainy Smurf (aka "The Brain"), and aside from being the obligatory Tank Girl look-alike, she serves as their demolitions expert. She's wild and care-free, and her involvement stems more from her love of blowing shit up than her loyalty to the cause.

i'm of the theory that all the revival comic is nothing but the fantasy of a child that's playing with his toys and his sisters toys during the 80's...

Thank you! yeah, I figured Tank Girl was the natural direction to take Rainbow Brite.

Since this is all 80's characters, will there be a chance of M.U.S.C.L.E. or Inhumanoids?

Oooh, I hadn't thought of them--maybe! I haven't had a chance to work on them in a while, so we'll see!

Alright, thanks! I already imagined how to work M.U.S.C.L.E. into the series: They could be the result of an experiment to make supersoldiers, with half of them remaining loyal to Brainy, and the other half, led by Muscleman aka Kinnikuman joining the resistance.

Haha she kinda looks like some crazy person you see in a horror movie "hey there, if your lost, i can always help you find your way *tilt head*" haha you know? anyway i would love to read your story if you could send me the link

Thanks! ^_^ Yeah, totally! I picture her being a little un-hinged. Not evil, but maybe with an evil streak.
Sure! I just have backstory and character bios right now--I haven't actually gotten into the main story yet, but I hope to soon. I actually don't have it posted online anywhere yet, since I'm still working on it. If you like I could email it to you--just let me know!

This is an awesome concept. I can't wait to see more of it. I assume we'll see some My Little Ponies at some point.
Some other childhood faves were Jem (techy stuff to mess with), Silverhawks (ooo flight), Fraggles (tunnels?), and Rose Petal Place (that's an obscure one).

Hmm... I don't remember Rose Petal Palace! I had thought about Jem, but maybe too similar to Brite? I considered the Silverhawks and Fraggles, too. We'll see what happens with them! The Ponies are going in! They'll be interesting.

askaniblue In reply to MurderousAutomaton [2010-03-03 05:43:40 +0000 UTC]
Jem just looks similar on the surface, but she was actually really smart and the daughter of a computer genius. The appearance swapping was due to a full body hologram and she had a sentient computer. So you could run her as a tech expert or something.
No, I don't actually remember old cartoons that well. Youtube has all answers. lol

Ah, not a bad idea! We'll see how it goes!
Yeah, I've been using YouTube to look up old theme songs from my favorite cartoons from childhood--total flashback! Ninja Turtles was always my favorite, so I got those on good ol' DVD!

Congrats on desaturating what should be a very vibrant character! The many colors are toned down enough to still look natural for your setting. Love the glowstick touch on the dynamite

Ha, ha--thanks! I thought it would be neat to mute her colors. Can't be too bright in a post-Apocalyptic world, after all! ^_^

This image literally made my night. I work swing shift in a lab and after an exhausting day I saw it last night on i09 during a few minutes of downtime. It cheered me up IMMENSELY along with the rest of your 80s Apocalypse artwork. Thank you so much for this! You have warmed my nostalgic-yet-jaded heart.

Hope you're feeling a little less jaded! ^_^ And welcome to Deviant Art!
