Description Another Americana character! The girls meet Rusty here on The Streamliner--a huge train they take out of The Big Apple. This is actually just a slightly re-tooled picture from the series this story is based on, Steam: [link] I didn't feel the need to re-draw him, since I liked it the way it was.

See the other characters in the story!

Sort of a Steampunk, stereotypical 'yale-man'?

Right! Sort of an early 1900s college boy. I was inspired by the Dover Boys cartoon Warner Bros. did back in the day.

I do not know why but I feel as if this guy is going to a college.

Eyesight is overrated. I'm sure it's not as bad as you think!

I can only about a foot in front of me.

Well, I can't see very well without my glasses, so I know what you mean. Even with my glasses, I have trouble reading things more than twenty feet away. But new glasses are expensive, so it's gonna stay that way.

It is true about glasses being so much money.

I know! It's a pain, for sure.

Are you actually working on the Americana story right now or just using it to take a break from Revival? 'Cause if you're doing them at the same time, that would prove that you're a robot who never sleeps.

Ha, ha! Well, it's more or less switching between the two, but I do manage to work a little of both in here and there. It's nice, actually--when I get tired of drawing the same character over and over (like The Revival), I can switch to character design (Americana), and vice versa when I feel like drawing more dynamic, compositional art.

I do need to get caught up with The Revival, though--I'm getting a booth at C2E2 this year (like Comic-Con, but smaller), so it's a good idea to have as much done as possible!

Sounds like a good way to keep things fresh, but need to impress those con-goers! As long as you've got some completed pages to show off, should go over really well.

Totally! I just finished a couple big projects, so from now till spring, I hope to get much more of The Revival done! Right now I've got an eight-page prologue and five pages of chapter 1 done, so I'm getting there...

Sounds awesome! Even if you're going to make us all wait to see any of it.

Ha, ha! Yeah, I'm still working that out with the other writers--what the best way to show the comic online is. Personally, I think on dA and as a webcomic off-shoot of my site would be best. The more exposure, the merrier.

It's also taking a while because I'm not sure how often I'll be able to update it, and I don't want to start posting if I can't keep up. Gotta get a backlog going before I start!

Having a buffer is definitely a good idea for something as involved as that. Regular updates tends to be a big thing for webcomic fans. One thing a lot of people don't realize about webcomics is that they can get a very dedicated following that's more than happy to buy compilation books and other merchandise. Some think that putting it online for free will make sales impossible, but it actually increases them. It's kind of like people buying the DVD of a movie they've already seen, I think; they know they like it, so there's no risk involved.

Definitely! I went to a seminar at C2E2 last year, about webcomics and self-publishing, and they said that you actually have a better chance of getting a book picked up if it's available for free online first--it gets that fanbase. But before any of that can happen, I have to make the damn thing.

The same company that held the seminar also accents open submissions for ideas for graphic novels and regular prose, which is cool--they're called Archaia, and I think their site is just archaia.com. I was even thinking of submitting that narrative I was working on to them...

I've heard of Archaia, but didn't know they took straight up prose. I'll have to look into them. If nothing else, I've got a million story ideas; my problem is that I can't draw any of them.

I love him. If these were from a role-playing game, this is exactly the kind of character I would probably play.

Thanks, man! I like him a lot, too--he uses a lot of styles that aren't generally referenced in art, so I think he feels a bit more unique.
