I wish I could go back. Back, before I lost the ones I love, before there were all these scars on my arms. But Time doesn’t move back, it only flows forward; unceasingly and mercilessly forward. Nothing can stop Time’s march toward eternity; nothing can turn back the hands of Time. Time is an unfeeling, unsympathetic beast. It shows no pity. It cares not for mortal worries. Its only goal is to move on, stopping for no one and nothing.

Sometimes I dream I see a clock, the hands spinning backwards faster and faster and I think that when I wake my scars will be gone and the people I love will be with me again. But then the night ends and another day in the march of Time begins. More cares and worries are heaped upon my shoulder and Time steals more people away from me. Eventually it will steal my youth, then my life. It’s a thief, taking what we hold dear. Another cut is slashed upon my arm which time will soon heal and fade to a white scar, just as it has the rest of them. The pain seems to stop time for a moment, but it is only an illusion.

Our advanced knowledge, technology and science are nothing to Time. They cannot stop nor hinder it. Time can turn technology to dust. Time has seen empires rise and fall, landscapes change, galaxies birthed and died. Eventually, at the end of the world, Time will be the only thing that remains, constant and unchanging, still marching on.

However, Time can be our teacher. We can hold on to our memories, try to re-live the past, but we can never go back. What was done is done; it is in the past, unalterable. We can only learn from the past and leave it there, having no regrets. We must try to make our futures better. When we’re going through Hell we can follow Time’s example and keep marching on…
