i could name them watermelon tourmaline, but then people would tell me that's already the name of the pufferfishi could name them stevidot, but then people would tell me i can't name them after a "pedophillic" ship

I'd say "screw it, it's not like we heard the puffer gem's name onscreen" and go with Watermelon Tourmaline.
One of the coolest designs for their fusion I've seen! So much adorkableness.Β
For the weapon, I'm thinking it's still a shield but it works like Sentinel Prime's in Transformers Animated, parts of the shield separating to better control the shape of the force field (reminiscent of Peri's old fingers.)
