Description
Abandon their defenses...Monsieur le FantΓ΄me right before Music of the Night. There was a LOT of thought and care put into this one, as it was given to John Cudia when I saw the show February 2nd (heh, ages ago...). He loved it.
The shading of the mask took some precision, but other than that it wasn't particularly challenging to draw. I attribute that to the lack of face and detailed hair. Maybe that's why I like drawing Erik so much...
I'm also absurdly proud of the feeble little candle. Light sources SUCK.
An accompaniment piece to Christine and Raoul .
Phantom (alas) belongs to Gaston Leroux and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
John Cudia belongs to himself (and Kathy Voytko, hehe).
Sketch belongs to me John Cudia as well.

Phantom makes me so happy. Always. Still makes me so happy.
And John Cudia, is he not seriously the most wonderful thing ever? His Phantom just kind of destroyed me with its awesomeness. I adore him.

that looks amazing!! isn't John just the bestest? (on AND off stage, since he was so incredibly nice and friendly to everyone at the stage door!!)

Yes, I did! I waited at the stage door for a bit after the show and met most of the cast I admit, I was a bit starstruck haha. But they are all such nice people it makes them very easy to talk to; ask nicely for a picture or an autograph and most of the time they are more than happy to oblige. I even got hugs for mentioning the show made me cry haha.

I might get to go to new york to see phantom next year if I'm lucky. Is the stage door hard to find? I would love to have some of the cast members autograph my book of sheet music from phantom. That is if I dont faint as soon as I meet the cast.

Oh, do so if you can. The cast is phenomenal, and the Broadway experience isn't quite like any other. The stage door's not at all difficult to find; I'd be more than happy to give you directions. The ushers are very good about that sort of thing as well, just be polite and be sure to thank them for their help, as they certainly work hard!

This is regular ol' graphite Dark Ticonderoga pencils, pick them anywhere you can get regular pencils. My favorite medium.
And thank you! For the fav as well. Phantom is truly something special, isn't it?

For a moment, I had thought it was charcoal. (: I will have to check those pencils out. They look amazing.
And Yes, Phantom is something special. I love they way they had put everything together, and the music was absolutely amazing.
You're welcome!

They're really not all that special, to be honest. It's just a matter of learning how to work with them. This is the kind I use: [link] Also, the background is a stick of woodless graphite. AMAZING for shading large area a dark color; you can get those at any art supply store.
I know right? Somehow, all the elements - music, book, lyrics, staging, sets, costumes, characters - all fit together close to perfectly. I don't know how they did it, but I'm sure glad they did!

well, I'm use to just using mechanical pencil, the the occasional art pencils I bought a few years ago. Haha.
Normally, I dislike it when they have movies based off of books, but I am so glad that they did Phantom. <3

I've used mechanical pencil too, it's another great resource. I only recently found a love for old-fashioned wood pencil. Whatever works best for you is what you should use; for example, I recently started doing some Disney art with acrylic paint, and am having a ton of fun (though I'm not very good, ha).
Mmm, I'm not so much a fan of the 2004 movie - though I do like it (Patrick Wilson <3) - as I am of the stage musical. If you liked the movie, you really have to check out the stage version. There are tons of clips of YouTube, and I'd be more than happy to direct you to some. I think, for what it was, the movie wasn't a terrible adaption though.

I love using acrylic paint, I wish I could use it more. I'm so bust with school, all that I ever have time for is when I doodle in class. D:
I've already beat you to the stage version. I've looked it up on youtube a long time ago. haha. They were amazing. I really want to have the chance to see it in person though.

Oh I know exactly what you mean. The school year is INSANE, especially coming to college when you don't have a set schedule (8 to 3 everyday or the like, it's class by class where I am). Along with ballet, theatre, and work, I have no time. I draw in class a ton too haha.
Whew, you have no idea how relieved it makes me that you've seen the stage version (clips, at least). There are so many raving movie fans out there who know nothing about it. Check your source material people, it's not hard!
Anyway, I hope you do get to see it live someday soon, it's incredible. One of the best experiences I've ever had.

I just finished up with my spring semester for college. I was at school only two days a week, from 8am-8pm. x_x It was horrible. I would always draw in math, and English. xD
I know! There were a few people who didn't even know that there was a BOOK. I was seriously like..."You claim to be a HUGE fan, but you didn't even know, let alone read the book?" It's the same with some Harry Potter fans D: I started reading the books when I was in 4th grade! Then as soon as the movies came out when I was in 6th people started only watching the movies D:

Ugh, tell me about it. Today was my last day (HALLELUJAH!) for the year, and the sense of relief is just amazing. "What do I have due for tomorr- OH WAIT NOTHING!" Artfest, here I come!
It saddens me deeply when I meet people like that, in any fandom (though POTO and HP seem to be the chief offenders, it's true). You can still be a fan if you haven't read the book, by my god people at least KNOW your source material! Know that his name is Erik, know that he has no nose, know that he's batshit insane! Even with all the resources available, it amazes me how many people manage to remain ignorant Guess that's one side of fandom for ya'...
But then again, it makes it so refreshing to meet people such as yourself who actually know what they're talking about.

I don't mind the books. Sure, the writing is far from great, the plot's not all that original, and I'm not to fond of the two main characters, but I really like some of the supporting characters and I find they're nice for mindless reading.
The movies, on the other hand, are pretty crap. Seriously, WHAT is with Robert Pattinson?!
P.S. Also, in my defense, I read these books waaaaaay back in 2006. No movies, New Moon had just been released... the fandom was mostly sane. WTF happened is what I want to know.

IndifferentSociety In reply to musical-miss [2010-06-17 05:10:31 +0000 UTC]
I have to agree. The supporting cast is way better. I prefer the books over the movies any day. I started reading them in 2006 also! Yay! Haha. I started reading the day after New Moon was realized. I picked it up by accident, starting reading the second book before I realized it was a series. Had to go back and get the first one. xD

musical-miss In reply to IndifferentSociety [2010-06-17 16:50:53 +0000 UTC]
Really? That's funny. I remember one of my friends was reading it, and I thought it looked interesting enough; girl falls in love with a vampire, has a werewolf for a best friend. I though she must have gotten it confused with another book, as there were no werewolves in Twilight. But, I liked it well enough to read the second book and go "Ahh...".
Also, early original fans unite! If we don't remain sane, who will?

IndifferentSociety In reply to musical-miss [2010-06-18 02:24:10 +0000 UTC]

My thoughts exactly. After the movie and seeing it EVERY-FREAKING-WHERE, I got sick of it. The fandom (most of it) became almost shameful to be a part of. I only fangirl over Alice and Carlisle in secret now
It's true. No one will remain sane. The sparkling vampires have corrupted us all

Emmett is another favorite. He reminds me very much of my older brother - sense of humor especially.

Hahah. When I first seen the movie I was like "He's sweaty!" xD
Right before the movies came out, I got a pit bull puppy was who was like "i'm so strong. Watch me. I'm amazing" and just his personality reminded me of Emmett, so that's what his name ended up being. xD
