In this cenario, both antagonistic sides of Joy have lost their gamble to conquer Riley’s mind.
On one hand, Mischief was defteated by Joy in a fight for control over Riley by turning her into a spoiled brat, and fell into the bottom of the Memory Dump. There, Mischief was alone and surrounded by her worst fear, the darkness, where Mischief couldn’t even sleep without fearing whatever is around her, lurking in the shadows.
On the other hand, try as she might to manipulate Riley to become a horrible criminal, Sadism was simply brought into existence too late, as Riley had fully matured into a kind and loving person, which Sadism feared. No matter how hard she fought to possess her host, Joy, in order to control Riley, Sadism’s attempts were futile, causing her to give up and retreat into the Memory Dump.
Upon crossing paths and knowing that their ambitions are all but lost, Mischief and Sadism decide to keep each other company in the darkness.
