Description

I have started to gain my interest with Pixar's Inside Out again. So for all of you fans of that film, I decided to write some fan fiction on one of my old Inside Out Villains. The title is inspired by this awesome gift art KurobaFox1412 drew for me.

Story

Seven years have passed since Riley began the path to maturity and expressing her thoughts and emotions throughout her life as a teenager. It was the necessity of Sadness that became a significant factor in these years, as much as it is to have Joy, Anger, Fear and Disgust. And they all became more necessary, particularly Sadness, when Riley had to leave her parents and make a living on her own. However, a new issue will begin to show itself, yet one that is not about trying to push Sadness aside. Instead, it is the ominous potential to enforce it upon others, along with Fear, Disgust and Anger in the darkest acts... of Joy...

It started when Riley was invited by her boyfriend, Jordan, to his house. While enjoying their time together, Riley spots on Jordan's computer, an old web series, called "Happy Tree Friends", on a YouTube channel called MondoMeida, that her boyfriend subscribed to. Deep within Riley's mind in the Headquarters, Joy is the first to spot it, and is rather confused with what she sees as she asks the other emotions about it.

Joy; "Jordan watches a cartoon about cuddly woodland critters?"

Anger; "That's rather ironic for such a metal head."

Disgust; "Yuck, we should just ask Jordan why and be done with it."

Disgust presses a button on the console and Riley asks.

Jordan; "Oh, that old series, I don't think you'd like it, it's got a lot of blood, gore and killing in it!"

This alerted Fear and unnerved Sadness, who were taking a break at the couch.

Fear; "Wait, did he just say "Happy Tree Friends" has blood, gore and killing!?"

Sadness; "Oh gosh, those poor woodland critters!"

As Sadness naturally starts sobbing away and Fear is simply more dumbfounded than frightened, Joy feels something sharp tingle from her back. An eery, silent, raspy whisper speaks into Joy's ear, encouraging her with curiosity. Joy then strangely begins to gain a rather peculiar sense of interest over this series.

Joy; "Well it's not going to hurt to just give this show a try."

So Joy has Riley ask Jordan if she could take a look at a few episode of the series, despite his inadvertent warning. There is a very long list of them to choose from after all;

www.youtube.com/playlist?list=…

At first, when watching them, it was just as one would expect upon looking at a front cover to a Brother's Grimm Fairy Tale book, with cheap light-hearted animation. Yet the next moment, just like it is when looking deeper into the darker content through the pages of a Brother's Grimm Fairy Tale book, the characters in the shorts die either abruptly or excruciatingly in cartoonish yet brutal deaths! There was dismemberment, disembowelment, impalement, decapitation, constant bleeding, brain-damage, the cleansing of flesh, the pulverizing of bones and all other heinous acts of the macabre unleashed upon the characters. All five emotions for the moment are rather speechless to the shock value of these shorts, and for a while they don't take control of the console to have Riley react to such.

That is until they saw some of the episodes revolving around the one HTF character who stands out from the rest... in terms of the mood-swings he has in his behavior towards others;

www.youtube.com/playlist?list=…

All four negative emotions react exactly in accordance to their namesake!

Sadness; "What horrible beasts and monsters behind MondoMedia created such an abomination of a deceiving show!?"

Fear; "I know children are more tolerant these days, but I still wouldn't want Riley to show this to any future kids she could have!"

Disgust; "The art style of the blood and gore is so ugly and of poor taste, it isn't even worth saying "gross" at."

Anger; "I cannot believe this series is still running since 2000!"

Yet the strangest part over all this, is that they are not the ones active on the console... it was Joy who was pressing the buttons on the keyboard, and she was pulling off a rather uncanny grin, even chuckling away while doing so. Simultaneously, a dark, sickly yellow memory orb rolls into storage, within it are the images of Riley laughing at such violence.

Joy; "...I think it's kind of funny..."

Riley's reaction was the same as she thanked Jordan for letting her know about this new interest and saved a link to the playlists on her phone to watch later. It was too late for the other emotions to stop such an interest, as they decided to reluctantly let Joy take control whenever Riley watched Happy Tree Friends. Joy is the lead emotion after all.

However, with each episode Riley takes the pleasure of viewing, the less Joy seemed to be like her normal self. Her grinning face started to appear more malevolent, particularly whenever that mint colored black bear in the military attire with the dog tags shows up on screen. By the time Riley had seen all the episodes that were featured, the other emotions started to become concerned with what it had done to their lead emotion.

One night, Sadness was reading another one of the mind manuals with only one light on in the control room, when a shadowy figure with neon blue eyes and a wide grimace, was sneaking up from behind her back. The said figure was carrying a chair... a hard, heavy chair, partially made of metal. Within just a few feet away from Sadness, the mystery person was just about to haul the chair over her head as if to swing it onto Sadness', until suddenly, Anger and Disgust interrupt what was going to happen next by turning the main lights on!

The mystery figure turns out to be Joy, posed with the chair like a demented cartoon character about to smash a mallet on an unsuspecting victim, yet Joy's face appears as if she had been snapped out of a hypnotic trance. In the rather awkward silence as Anger and Sadness stare at Joy, Joy makes a nervous and embarrassed face, puts the chair down next to Sadness, and the three of them say "Hey!" to each other. Joy then tries to discreetly retreat back to her room. Feeling rather uncomfortable with what she had just saw, Sadness sloppily places the mind manual she was reading back onto the shelf and leaves the control room. Yet due to not properly arranging the shelf, a few other manuals fall off.

As Anger decides to recover the books and place them back, he discovered one manual hiding way at the back of a shelf behind the other books. The manual was labeled as "Inner Emotional Psyche" on the front over. Curious, Anger takes a look at it. The book was like a bestiary of darker versions of Anger and his fellow emotions. Some of them would include beings like Prejudice, Wrath, Paranoia or Depression (the latter being nicknamed as Gloom). Anger mostly just haphazardly flipped through the pages since he wanted to call it a night. Yet one page caught Anger's attention above all the others.

It was labeled, Inner Emotional Psyche Volume 13; Joy's Abnormal Behaviors. Upon looking at it, he sees before the text a list of images, each one depicting Joy on the left, and on the right, a dark looking doppelgänger. One of these doppelgängers in particular looked more insidious than the others, with neon blue eyes and black hair shaped like the letter S, and on her black dress was a white symbol that looked like a wheel, with curved spikes sticking out. Underneath the image was a list of names that label this creature.

Anger; "Sadist... Sadism... Sadistic?-"

Anger was about to read the description, but something thick and strong filled the air. Anger turned to look behind him, and spotted too late, an opened canister, with the logo "knockout" labeled on it...

...What followed the next day was the repeated trope of Disgust constantly spotting Joy appearing as if she was about to commit violent acts on either her, Fear and especially Sadness, or on all of them simultaneously! And whenever spotted, Joy would continue to snap out of it and get rid of whatever she is armed with and what she uses varies depending on each of the other three emotions. With Disgust, Joy would be armed with any type of toxin that would make her hurl, with Fear it would be anything related to horror, yet with Sadness it was with any type of dangerous weapon in general! Plus it was as if Joy had the power of manipulation over reality to materialize such out of thin air, and it was also as if Joy's strength drastically increased whenever she acted this way, as she'll even haul anvils fifty times more massive than Anger...

Disgust; "Anger? Where are you? There seems to be something wrong with Joy!

As Joy this time got spotted by Fear for attempting to swing an axe onto one of Sadness' arms who was trying to search for the one missing manual she had yet to read, Disgust seizes the opportunity to slip past the commotion and sneak into Joy's room.

Disgust; "Will you just show yourself already, you stupid brick, you can't just sleep on the job-GASP!!!"

To Disgust's complete dismay, Joy's room had been transformed into a mix between a crypt, a slaughterhouse and a torture chamber. Yet at the same time, it looks clean and  all of the different types of devices inside look like they have just been purchased and have not yet been used... except for a wheel with curved spikes, or more accurately the Catherine Breaking Wheel, resting on Joy's bed. Next to it on the right was a large, heavy, spiky, meat tenderizing steel mallet, also clean and yet to be used. And desperately struggling as he is muffled, blindfolded and roped to the wheel itself, was Anger!

Disgust; "OH MY GOSH! What the Heck did Joy of all people do to you!

Making certain that Joy wasn't around, Disgust quickly undoes all the the ropes and duct tape from Anger. As the blindfolds are taken off, Anger takes a disturbed look around the room crammed with coffins, meat-hooks and medieval torture devices, before answering to Disgust.

Anger; "I think we can both safely agree that something is definitely wrong with our lead emotion! The last thing I remember was looking at a manual on one of her inner demons!"

Upon saying that, a horrible rattling noise errupts the silence followed by blood-curling screams! Disgust and Anger rush out of the room just in time, catching Joy red handed as she hauls a chainsaw over her head and about to use it on Fear and Sadness who are huddled together, shivering in trauma!

In the official series, no, Pinkie Pie is not a villain. Pinkie Pie was bastardised into a villain in fan made animated videos like Cupkcakes.
What I wrote here is a redemption story about Joy and her fellow emotions helping Joy’s manifested inner demon, Sadism, redeem herself because Riley’s mind is too benevolent. And the story ends with Sadism giving up her potentially evil ways to become a better person.

No problem, I just simply enjoy villains a lot. I also have a journal on 8 facts about my Sadism FC as well if you’re interested.
8 Character Facts MemeThis has been long delayed, so I’ll do so today.
Tagged by :iconSonicFazbear15: to point out 8 facts on Inside Out FC, Sadism. Though I also want to write 8 facts about my gem adopt, Calcite Lazuli.
#1. Post these rules.
#2. Post 8 random facts about your character.
#3. Tag 8 other creators.
#4. Post their OC's name along with their creator's name/avatar
8 Facts; Sadism (NOTE; Feel free to explore my gallery if you want to better understand the other characters of mine that I mention here)

1. Sadism is one of the many dark specters that lurk inside Joy from Pixar’s Inside Out, and she is the last soul surviving evil IO fan character that I have, due to me scrapping the others.
2. Sadism was originally meant to be the only emotion Sir Peccatori ever had, with Vice as her superior within the Hellmouth Knight’s mind.
3. Sadism was later remade to become a character inside Riley’s mind who would have to redeem hersel
One fact being that Sadism highly values Joy as the source for her existence, if Joy dies, Sadism would be destroyed as well.

I am going be honest, this is a fan fiction that does respect the source material very well and tries to understand its workings, rather than wanting to be just dark and edgy. There is sence to the more mature themes here, as they reflect an important reflection of our emotional development. As for sure, where there is light, there is a shadow it casts. Sadism is most certainly something people experience, and having her been seen in this role feels very natural to the movie. Of course confronted with a theme that needs a bit Alex Hirschening around to go under the radar, but I did find the reactions of all emotions rather funny. And well, it is in fact something interesting to explore the different shapes and forms of emotions.

Thank you very much!
I wanted to pay a lot of tribute to what was in the film as well as have quite a few nods as well. If I were to just write this story to be nothing more than Sadistic slaughtering everyone, it would be little more than a dull Creepypasta. I have enjoyed and have been interested in entertainment that contains that type of dark content for quite some time and how something that should be dreaded in reality could work off as being comical in fantasy.
Everyone can have dark thoughts, but what matters about them is to not take them too seriously and that it can be humbled. I did not want the five main characters to be nothing more than a bunch of helpless quivering victims and actually give them a concern on dealing with the situation, despite the material not being very easy to show to the younger demographic without a PG rating.
I did have thoughts of the other emotions showing their own darker sides as well, yet that has already been covered on DA, mostly with Joy's evil side being Insanity, which I don't find as interesting.

Well, it's quite nice to see Sadistic as a "Mr. Hyde" for Joy.

I wonder how the other emotions will deal with this dilemma.

Sort of a Mr. Hyde and the exorcist for Joy in a way. The latter is how the other emotions deal with her issue.

Thank you very much! In a way this is a bit of a reflection, though not as over exaggerated as this story, to my expirience to violent cartoons when I was a teenager as when I first saw such like the French cartoon Les Shadocks or even the Powerpuff Girls. I did feel rather unnerved about it at first, then I started gaining more interest over such cartoons of dark humor for some time and then understood that it is primarily meant to be fantasy and that I should not take it seriously, and just for a minor spoiler, Sadistic eventually ditches her own name in favor of naming herself Satire when she turns over a new leaf.

Yeah I really like the cartoons that actually reflect something like real life problems and stuffs in a sarcastic way. I enjoy dark humor and understand those are just not a fact. And ohhhh she changed her name into Satire? didn't expect that but that make sence! Really need to keep reading it!

Though it's good that I did not know about Happy Tree Friends until 2004 because I used to impersonate cartoon characters when I was 7 back in the late 90s. I haven't yet wrote about her doing so as I need to write how the final segment of this story ends on Part 5. Feel free to take your time.👍

Love how this story is going so far, same goes to the second part! This is strikingly original in its own way. Since Riley's getting into her teen years and teens tend to start liking things they used to hate as a child, and also the period where delinquency and "unthinkable thoughts" appear, it does make sense for an evil side of Joy to appear. I admire how this goes into depth the perspective of a teenager's emotions during that stage.

Thank you very much! And I'm glad you enjoy the second part as well. I find it rather funny that you said that since I placed a lot of references in the story, particularly parodying the Creepypastas, and especially in Part 2 with Frieza. I felt like making the story take place with Riley at a more mature age of 20. It's because when someone is that old, they are more mature and more likely capable of understanding the difference between fantasy and reality, therefore understanding the violence meant for comedic purposes in a cartoon. I particularly back up my reasons for the age in Part 3. The whole story is pretty much about the idea of defeating dark thoughts, not by destroying them, but by humbling them, taming them and limiting them until they no longer cause bad influence within one's mind.

I'm really glad to see Sadistic back. She was one of my favorite characters back in the days I don't want to remember. It's also interesting that Joy turned into Sadistic because of Riley watching so much Happy Tree Friends (I used to watch that show, but in my childhood days! And in secret!). Not trying to compare, but it reminded me of Flippy from such show.

I couldn't think of any other way to trigger the Sadism inside Joy than crossing Inside Out over with Happy Tree Friends, and it's an excellent comparrisson between Sadistic and Flippy as well since he is one of the inspirations. Second part is coming up real soon.
