Description If you have read this:

If The Roughness of My Skin Offends YouWhen people asked if she was ok, she only ever told them, "Yes, I'm fine," or some equivalent empty phrase. The words were enough to sate their pretend curiosity and they never asked any further questions because that was how it was supposed to be. "I'm fine," was her anthem and everyone believed it because it was too inconvenient to look for the truth.

For them, to believe the lie was easier because if something was wrong and they were to know about it, then they would feel obligated to ask more questions, and pretend to care for longer, and no one wanted to go to the hassle and she didn't want to be a burden anyway. That wasn't how it was

you know what this is about and my feelings on it.

Seriously. I guess sometimes I forget that the mods are human and are influenced by bias etc...

Well, yeah, but they still run a website, and they still have to pay attention to theft on the website.

The mods should start focussing on stolen deviations before they even think of deleting stuff they don't agree with.

I will take here an assumption that the dA staff are not self-harmers and like most other people around who are not they can only logivaly deduct the most obvious things to them that may trigger someone, which would be: pictures of both scars and open wounds. It is up to the moderator who removed your work and he at the moment saw in the pictures, along with perhaps reports of someone else who found it triggering.
I do believe all your tags were put in order and according to rules and I personaly would not remove your pictures because I see them as a message of support, a call to fight against the problem. It is the Artist's choice and a role I believe to do this, portray a message and it is what artists are doing, both with their writting and pictures and it is not the Artist's fault if someone and how someone finds their work. They have tags, filter = they can simply NOT open your work if they think it can offend them or trigger them. But regarding self-harm topic, I do believe perhaps you yourself know how at times it can be hard to avoid something you know will trigger you. When you are trying to stop, but your brain in its fragile state is at the same time looking for anything to continue. I have a strong compassion for those people, hence why I would avoid using the above mentioned logical reasoning of which pictures I would not use for sure.
Regarding your complaints and observations about other pictures that are defenatly violating dA's own terms I share the same frustrations as yours, especially for being a self- harmer myself I think. The world is still in the sam sad state it has always been(at least since my birth) where self-cutting is being masked away and dubbed non existant instead of treated as a real problem, where scars and wounds are erased from existance and dubbed made-up, while at the same time spreading your vagina to your cam then sharing the snap with the world is considered normal and more and more even encouraged. I am more conserned that the young population of this website is witnessing that, then your or someone elses pictures of their scars. But that is just me.
Keep sharing your work, your pictures, writtings and your story, for not all will missunderstand yur message and I can surely say that you will help many souls on their struggle.

It PISSES ME OFF that works like this are deleted. I feel like dA's not only shoving it under the rug, but also sort of saying, "if you self harm and want help, gtfo you're not welcome here.' I've been struggling with self harm for years, and it was communities on dA, first-hand accounts, and support networks that supported me as I try to stop.

Thank you for taking the time to read and comment, I really like what you've said. It really is like dA is making this place inhospitable to those who are struggling with these issues, and that's so frustrating! I really do just want to help people and remind them that they're not alone in their struggle - that they don't have to be ashamed and they don't have to hide. But when dA pulls crap like this it really seems like that's what they want us to do, hide! And that infuriates me ><

Some of the art on this site disturbs me or just looks like low grade porn to me but I don't want them to take it down or try and force people to take it down because I understand that there are people who can find beauty or meaning in that art work. The only thing that I honestly can understand them not allowing is when it is a work that portrays a violent death of a real person if it is done without the knowledge or consent of said person because that could cause problems.

Your welcome. I flipped through your gallery for a bit and was surprised. How well spoken you are didn't come as a surprise it was more how willing you were to put what you think out there for everyone to see. Not enough people are willing to do that. I was also surprised by how you look. I expected you to be good looking(I tend to think well spoken talented people are attractive)but you remind me of a forties movie star, almost like loretta young, but with less lipstick. And in my opinion movie stars back then were prettier(probably because they weren't starving themselves to be "pretty").

It makes me laugh, how rude some people are being here.
I understand the rules but, I really don't see it as a problem. Art is art, and can be anything. I don't approve of cutting, no, but I won't get in someone's face for it. The best I can do is tell someone is that it is not a good thing, and to be careful.
People complaining about triggering are being a tad foolhardy, because OBVIOUSLY if it was triggering at all, you did not intend it.
Aye.... what has this community come to?

SmoothPorcupine In reply to MZDShadowWorks [2012-11-27 05:24:08 +0000 UTC]

The triggering argument frustrates me so much when people bring it up because you're right, clearly I am not trying to trigger people - I want to help people! And it frustrates me that the dA admin brought it up because they have nothing, nothing about triggering in the FAQ about self-harm.

wow dA, great way to hate on the people trying to do some good in the world. more and more i see this site going downhill, no doubt in part to the support guy here who 'helped' you, and whatever loser deleted your stuff. i've never read any of your work before, [that will probably change ] but from what you've said, and what has been posted in previous comments, dA wrongfully deleted your work. they're no better than the high school bully who says SI is nothing other than a cry for attention. i wish you well in your own struggles and also hope you get through to these numbskulls and get your writings un-deleted <3

The thing that infuriates me about this matter is the fact that they allow stolen images on this site, yet bother to delete this. At least 20% of images on dA regarding the home-page consists of meme's, .gifs, or something that isn't "art." Let's not even get into the pornographic-esque Facebook photos that flood the home-page too. I never saw your photos, but from what you say and defend, it sounds a bit blasphemous that you would have them removed.

I do not know why I visit this site so often as I do, considering it is a huge disappointment in regards to the deviations that get so popular even though they display something utterly ridiculous. On another note, a delightful piece! (Self-harmer over here too.)

elecxra [2012-10-26 07:52:12 +0000 UTC]

Was the image only depicting the cutting? If so I agree with dA Staff. We have young people on this site and a lot of people still don't want to see that. Also it does in a way encourage the bratty, emo teens who think they can "art" by making shitty poems on this site want to kill themselves and cur even more.

If it was just an image with the main aspect being yourself and not the injuries then I believe this was unfair.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MutePoetess In reply to elecxra [2012-10-26 08:18:14 +0000 UTC]

Two of the images did focus on my scars, yes, and with the third, my scars were a part of it. None of them contained blood or fresh wounds, or even any objects used to self-harm. The two that focused on my scars focus on the subject of self-harm but to show the struggle of those who are fighting it and to express the idea that people are not alone - that I and others like me would like to help. I understand too that some people don't want to see that which I was I brought up the idea of the content filter which I figure would, in conjunction with a clear written trigger warning, alleviate the problem.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

elecxra In reply to MutePoetess [2012-10-26 13:32:23 +0000 UTC]

Either way, it could cause or trigger emotional distress or self harm.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MutePoetess In reply to elecxra [2012-10-26 19:27:22 +0000 UTC]

Right, as could pictures of anything really, which is where I come to my point too that people who are self-harmers also need to share in the responsibility here of making an attempt to not look at things that might trigger them. If I'm feeling particularly vulnerable and I come across a picture that's behind a mature content filter and there's a trigger warning in the description, it's up to me to decide if I think I can handle it or not and if I look at it and it does trigger me, that's on me, not the artist.
