so yes, that song was the inspiration for this piece. ever since a friend of mine said the song reminded him of these two. it would be from marco's point of view, the one on the left.

in the drawing: marco (left) and wolf (right). from my comic, nine lives . this actually takes up an entire sheet of 8.5"x11" paper. only used pencil.

i left the colors flat because 1) all that cross-hatching took me a while, it would be a shame to cover it up. 2) it gets the mood across more. 3) adds to the meaning of the title.

i'll try to explain this without giving away too much...

i wanted this piece to have some sort of feeling of distance and emptiness to it. a lack of color, so to speak. these two have a very complicated history, and upon bumping into eachother by chance, all those feelings have come afloat again. marco was never too sure of how he felt about wolf, and he's only more confused now... almost 8 years after they parted ways. wolf once loved him, but now that he sort of has renard, he doesn't know what he wants, as he isn't exactly ready to commit to renard (or anyone) just yet.

marco is reluctant, as it didn't work out for them in the past when they were in high school. wolf is reluctant too, but a little less inhibited because of his ways. still, renard might be the one to change that for him, even though he's finding it difficult to stay committed. but marco and wolf have eachother to blame for the way they turned out after high school... marco's lack of a social life, and wolf's lack of commitment in relationships.

so this scene is just a moment of tender, silent communication between them... and yes, they are on a bed. marco's bed, to be precise. (why does he need such a big bed anyway...)

anyway, i've rambled on long enough. enjoy. and read the comic if you haven't! and listen to the song, because it is quite touching.
