You LIVE! I was actually thinking about ya bro. I need to be more active online these days. This also reminds me, I should be doing value studies when I'm not busy doing anything.

Yeah sometimes... I kinda went through a period of not making art which involved getting a social life for a while, went through two failed relationships and joined a band. I'm only just coming back to being interested in drawing. But at least i still seem to be improving.

I was probably a bit heavy on the noise...

It was more the brushwork that didn't look like something PS would simulate, I'm still working with the simple round brush Sometimes I play with grain, not often though.
Now post more art, I can't let my old times rival die.

It was a simple round brush for most of it btw. Its mostly using a soft brush and a hard eraser to get my edges.

From what I observe it seems like PS blends in the least "simulating" way compared to others like sai or painter, even between simple brushes, PS just runs pure mathematical blending. Either that or I just don't do enough value stuff like this to get a feel for quick broad blends, or the grain and coloration truly is fooling my eyes.
Still working at Halfbrick these days?

Hmm yeah the hair i guess would apply to that, but for the most part its just a different working methodology that causes that weird texture. Its simply if i make a mistake i wont erase it to nothing, i will just go over it with a soft brush and erase back, and it leaves all these tasty little sharp edges, so naturally the more i work on it the more texture there is. The benefit really pops out at the end when you do a sharpen which i do manually now days with a high pass filter on the image set to soft-light.
Yeah I'm still at halfbrick, not sure how long i want to stick around there for anymore though.
