Description not your usual take on the elements of water, wind and fire. i know

to me, the positioning and the branching toes resemble fire. and the wrinkles remind me of the wind that rakes the desert sand. and of course, who can forget the element of water - ie: moisture/perspiration - that's associated with the orange heat...

done in faber-castell pencil crayons. took many hours. the awkward shadows were challenging.

i might paint a thin wash of orange or yellow watercolor over it to cover up the white "holes" that the pencil crayons left out.

Your drawing is excellent!
Personally I remember to Cuauhtemoc, an emperor from ancient MΓ©xico
Yeah. Specially when he says the famous phrase:
"i'm not in a bed of roses." in reference when his enemies burn his hands and feets.

This really caught my eye. I think that it was the colours that drew my attention first, they are very vibrant, yet they still create a soft feeling.
And the detail of the feet is what I noticed next. The detail is amazing. I love the wrinkles.

I like the texture of the white dots and such A very good drawing, i like the colours and the shading. was it drawn from the photograph? Only i fail to see how someone could keep their feet still that long...

While I admit I hate feet (I think they're ugly), this is still an excellent piece that, as mentioned above, is charming. I love your usage of colour .. I like how you're not afraid to use it and experiment with it, and I find that your skills really show in this piece. As well as your desire to have fun with art.

Sometimes to get rid of the white spots, I use a white pencilcrayon (but that changes the colour) or a non-colour pencilcrayon (prismacolors has them). Or else I just colour repeatedly, and very hard, until I've filled it in. But there are numerous techniques... do you know if the paint works? I've never tried it.

mwink In reply to beatnik [2006-03-08 01:11:40 +0000 UTC]

thanks. i asked my art teacher if the watercolor wash could work and he said yes. however he said that he likes the white spots because it adds life to it. so i guess i'm leaving them.

thanks! at the start of figuring out the shadows and creases for this piece, it looked pretty weird and discouraging, but i still gave it a shot.. and i'm glad it turned out decently.
