Hey there!With a lack of ponified Windows start buttons, I felt inclined to make my own. I'm not much of a graphics artist, but I think I did a pretty decent job.
What this does is it replaces your Windows start button/orb, with an orb containing the color and cutie mark of one of 33 different ponies, the list is below:

Anyways, as far as installation goes:
Step 0:
This pack is for Windows 7. However, thanks to pointing it out, you can actually use this one Windows 8 if you use Classic Shell , which apparently allows you to make your Windows 8 experience more like that of Windows 7. Thanks for the heads up!
Step 1:
Download the Windows 7 Start Orb Changer here:

Step 2:
Unzip and run the program, and click the "Change" button, which should open up a folder view prompt box.
Step 3:
Drag your desired (or all) pony start orb into the prompt box, select the one you wish to use, and click "Open".
Step 4:
Your screen should refresh, and congrats: your desktop is now 20% cooler!
P.S. For those of you who downloaded this from the Equestria Digital pack:
The start buttons in there are old, and don't contain all the ones in the official pack here (only 16 vs 33). In addition, the program that they distribute causes the buttons to render incorrectly. Be sure to use the one I link above for the best results.

This is the complete set of 33 (both packs at 16 each, plus Queen Chrysalis as a bonus). Rather than having them uploaded separately, it made more sense to pack them both together. Not all of the start buttons are shown in the preview above obviously, so some you'll just have to check out for yourself!

I did a slight edit, though, because the original 'glow' is a bit strange IMO, but that's my only complaint.

there's a program called 'startisback' that lets you easily change a bunch of things. i don't know if you can do it without that. if i remember correctly, it's fairly inexpensive, and it also restores a few other nice things that windows 7 had.

Look at the top right of the page. There should be a button to download the zip file up there.

start orb changer doent open. use classic shell then set it so when u click the orb it goes to the normal thing.

Hey, I'm not sure if this is meant to be but when I place the bmp's in, some of them have a solid haze around them instead of a fading glow. it looks really out of place and its visible too when I preview the bmps directly from a folder. Only some have this effect such as the main 6, Derpy and Celestia to name a few. seems like only those from the first pack.

Are you using the program I listed, or a different one (such as the one from the Equestria Digital pack)?
The program shipped with the Equestria Digital pack, for example, messed with the icons. I've never had an issue with the one I linked in the description.

Even when using the link you provided for the Start Orb Changer it glitches out, it was working fine for quite a while then one day the Lyra Start Orb I was using started getting that hazy glitchy texture around it.

Thankyou. I went to it before but my security said it had a virus and the download on the page added a extra file as opposed to the program. but I contacted the admin and he said to click on direct download link on the thankyou page which my security is happy with. < in case anyone else is having the same problem.

Not so long as I can't figure out why the new ones I've made don't work... Without Windows 7, it's become a hard thing to trouble shoot =S If I ever figure out why though, I'd add that too the list and be sure to let you know!

I have Windows 8 as my computer now, meaning I can't test these to ensure they work as easily as I could before. I do have access to another computer now though that does have Windows7, so we shall see.

Actually, if you do could me a favor and let me know if it works, that would be help enough. I don't exactly have windows 7 anymore, and I haven't made one of these in a while, so if it isn't working right just let me know so I can figure out why.

Old comment is old, I know. But, I tried it on Windows 7 Vista 32bit, and it worked alright!
It can be, so long as you download "Classic Shell". For me, it used the bitmap images shown, and made my orb icon work perfectly!
Are you using Windows Vista? If so, which version of Windows does it support?

FOR THOSE CURSED TO USE WINDOW'S 8 (like me): There's a program called "Classic Shell" for windows 8.1. It creates a functioning Start button like in win7 and you can customize the start button to use these pony icons!

Just a tip for anyone with rough edges: Don't use the program included in the Equestria Digital Project; it causes them. The program linked above works perfectly.

Apparently these start orbs were featured in the Equestria Digital Project 2013 . I'm amazed at how popular they have become for what started as a simple personal project. All thanks to you guys

What's the trouble you're having? Keep in mind, they aren't icons, they are start orb replacements (to replace the start button on Windows 7 machines).
