Wooh~ Been a while since I've finished colouring a picture.
Anyway, this is my amazeballs character Ruso. He doesn't take shit (especially from me) and once when I got his left shoulder injured in battle, he turned around and hurled it right back. Next morning I woke up with a sore left shoulder that impeded my weightlifting for the next few days. True story, I still don't know how he did it.

Ruso causes my injuries.So last Thursday I took a spear to the eye. I didn't have time to post about it because I went to camp straight after and then moved into my friend's house, and blah blah.
But yeah. I got stabbed by a spear while training and now I have a blood spot on my eyeball.
I remember posting maybe a year ago that Ruso's injuries get reflected on to me. I can't find where I posted it, either on a journal or in the description of a picture, but I did post it.
In 2014 I drew this:
This is where I first decided Ruso would have a big wound on his left shoulder. Shortly afterwards, my left shoulder started aching for no apparent reason and it fucked up my weightlifting for a while.
Sometime later I drew this:
And I decided that Ruso had a permanent limp on his leg. I ended up actually getting a limp on that same leg for a while. I think I got hit by a sword. I actually don't remember.
Then last Thursday I got stabbed in the eye during traini <--- It's more than that. He also got me stabbed in the eye and cut on the leg. Also when I killed Svala, he killed my kitten. So don't fuck with that guy.

This chap looks like went shopping with Ezio to get this hood. I like the strokes in the background and how the make interesting foliage. Great colour scheme - He's like a cameleon - he could easily disappear into the background should he want to.
The dry brush effect (or digital texture?) gives the clothes some real roughness, which seems to match this character.

It was a self-created brush. [On GIMP if you copy something, you can use it as a brush. I just drew a grid and used that.]

Ah I see! I use Photoshop these days (I used to use gimp some years ago though). I'm sure Photoshop has an easy way to do it too so I'll look into that. Give me some sort cuts for backgrounds

Yeah, there probably is a way. .. somehow. Consult Youtube
Shortcuts as in how to do them, or jut how to do them lazily? 
Primary shortcut: lots of sky, a tiny bit of horizon. [That might not work for your setting, though, considering there are buildings everywhere..]
2nd shorcut: Sketch 'em.

On GIMP I always use a brush that emulates a real paintbrush, to give the picture more texture.

Yup pretty much! That's not always a bad thing though lol, sometimes he's helpful like when I'm army training I like to imagine him jeering at me and then shoving or pulling me along when I get really tired, and for some reason it actually makes me run faster. All in the mind, bro.

That looks great! what material did you use? did you use a special kind of paper? is it pencils or paint, if so what kind?
Also...wow. I didn't think it was possible for a character to physically do something like that.
It's a good thing I keep a low profile with my characters about the fact that I am their author/artist....or I'd be in trouble.
They'd probably be all over me with requests, demands, criticism, and there's this one character who I gave a tragic past to when I was twelve...she'd be furious with me if she knew it was my fault.
Maybe I'll give her a nicer backstory one day when I get some ideas for one.

Well you could mix in a few nice details into the backstory; I find it's best when the backstory isn't all nice but isn't all bad either, for all characters. That way they can't complain about favouritism.
