Ya know this is my most favorite peice in your gallery , and I haven't left a comment - Going to rectify that right now

Its one of those paintings that once you see , you wont forget . Yes its haunting and dark , but its got the right amount of beautiful luminescence that you just want to sink into this with your eyes . Plus you do rock skeletons like a boss !!

Not sure if you kept this one or sold it , but its one of those high quality pieces

thank you very much!

this is a personal favorite of mine! i often joke that it's a self portrait of sorts (a head for each personality)

and thanks again, the human skeleton is one of my most forms.
something i feel i can never draw or paint enough!

this piece is one i doubt i'd ever part with.

i'll have to post the tone study i did for this.

A head for each personality , I'm afraid to ask D:
 - I think you should add another head with a

Good , its one of those peices that are too pricless to let go of .

i love the glow and the richness that only oils can create!

thank you!

i've been experimenting with other faster drying mediums, but at heart i will always be an oil painter through and through

you're very welcome! i just looked back to see which painting i'd faved and damn it's good all over again! i some of your others, as well. good good stuff!

i started out (no training, it was for catharsis) with oils and didn't know much about painting at all. i just thought that's how long for paint to dry.

when i started using acrylics i was kind of disappointed.

keep up the good work! (use those oils!!!!)

myconius In reply to crazyruthie [2014-11-05 02:07:58 +0000 UTC]

thank you very much!

i tried acrylic in grade school years before i ever tried oils and i HATED them.
it was like trying to paint with gunky glue

i didn't get the best handle on oil paints right away, but i felt there was something there worth exploring further.
glad i stuck to it though

they do take forever to dry though don't they?

Very, very impressive. I only worked with oil a few times and found it difficult to work with. Stunning work.

thank you.

i've had to practice with oils for quite a while before getting a handle on them
but once i finally did they became my favorite medium.

thanks again

You're welcome.

Yeah, I figured it'd have to be something you'd have to work with for a good time before getting to grips with it. Though I can see the allure of them, producing visuals like this for example!

My pleasure.

myconius In reply to TheFunkyBoy [2014-04-27 13:26:32 +0000 UTC]

again, thank you so much

tips for getting a good handle on oils in the beginning

-make sure to use good quality name brand paints (you want something with as little filler as possible, strong pigment and paint that you can control)

-paint with a limited pallet at first. it's easier to create a 3d look if you're just painting in B&W (even tough i'll actually use colors to mix up a grey tone rather than using drab 'ol black paint.

-be careful not to apply too much paint all at once. after you have far too much paint on your surface you won't be able to control it.

hope this helps

Thank you for the very sound advice, if I ever do try oils again, which may be sooner rather than later, I'll keep this in mind. Cheers!

great work, it's awesome! did you have a reference with this pose or the skeletons? it seems really hard to draw :/

myconius In reply to SmlArt [2014-03-30 12:19:36 +0000 UTC]

thank you so much

believe it or not, i actually drew/painted this originally from imagination
but i had to really study skulls for many years.
after drawing it i went into it over and over to tweak it.
though when i look at it knowing what i know now i see there were forms i didn't quite fully understand at the time. but i still am happy with this painting.

SmlArt In reply to myconius [2014-03-31 11:04:30 +0000 UTC]

that's terrific! you must have prastised really hard so to draw this straigh away! it's weird how you draw things automaticaly once you draw them over and over again. the thing is, that the more complicated they are, the more mistakes will be made, and eventually get to learn them in a not-so correct way, but the good with art ~as long as you don't call it realism~ is that you can make any changes as you want, as long as you like what it ends up like  ^^

myconius In reply to SmlArt [2014-03-31 13:15:33 +0000 UTC]

that's one of the secrets of any great art.
studying after the great masters you see they would draw/paint/sculpt the same thing over and over and over to improve on it.
sure it gets tedious. but if done proper the end result can be really fantastic.

when doing art that requires a lot of study, i like to take breaks from it and do other more spontaneous doodles and sketches so my art doesn't become too stiff and rigid.

of corse if the 'ol brain overheats, you need to give it a nice cool down

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SmlArt In reply to myconius [2014-03-31 17:39:26 +0000 UTC]

xD it's weird, I think my brain is on that cool down at all time c:
you're right though, it's always nice to make the process of learning things about art fun\like, when you want to take exams at architecture, at least in Greece, it's anything but fun. like, there all these things you have to study and pay for several lessons that are not free unlike most countries, and learning a great amount of information about dimensions and tones and everything..it's sad how there are no lessons for comics and human structure as well :/ I guess most of the good greek artists work on their own, but it's hard when you don't have face-to face person to talk to you about it..

my thoughts are try to learn what you can from what you have in front of you.
and for exploring new things there's always google search

SmlArt In reply to myconius [2015-01-13 14:48:34 +0000 UTC]

ehe yes internet is always the source for the best refs x3
individualising parts of things you see and analyse them always helps, there are times you might see an artist's picture of a certain style and like some features, so memorizing them and "saving them for later use" can be of help too

Cheshire-Lunacy [2014-01-12 14:28:17 +0000 UTC]

So why this creeps me out, in 2007 I had an odd dream about some government laboratory in which they were making a new Mass Destruction Device with the use or Arcane Energy Known as Tesla Energy. I was sent down into a "basement" area if you will and these Skeletons were hanging up, And then they Barbershopped.
