Description
I had a small flock of bluebirds visit my yard - they did not make use of the feeders, just my trees and a few berry bushes around the proximity. This gives me some hope for attracting them with mealworms in the spring! The front and side views of this birds face look so different - looks like a sweetheart from the side, but an angry bird from the front! More photos to be uploaded at a later date... I unfortunately did not get any good ones of the males.
Shot through my window.

Thank you so much for writing this critique! I do try to capture birds from the front to try to get this type of expression again. So far, none came out this mean-looking

What a cute bird with a puffy feathering. Its pose his sort of helping with the overall cuteness. The picture's bokeh makes sure our bird is well visible.
Unlike the previous critique, I believe our cute little lad position in this capture is well balance. Instead of centering its center of mass, like it was previously recommended, you've place it at one-third from the left-hand side. By doing so, it shows a bird attempting to keep its balance, thus adding dynamics to the picture.
I believe a little more contrast could have been added to this capture, a tiny bit at least.

Thank you for taking the time to write a critique! Your vote is very fair, as my technique for this photo probably isn't the best since it was shot through a window

First sorry for my bad English.
When I saw your photo between the rest of the deviations I clicked on it because I was curious it looks like the bird is looking very angry and that's very cute!
The background is perfect and also the little bird is very nice and sharp. Did you use a tripod?
A few point of advise:
The photo looks grey maby you can do something with the contrast of the photo. I guess it happend because of the window.
I see that your focal length is 400 mm I guess you couldn't come closer but maby for next time place the bird more out of the center. If you placed the lovely bird more in one corner it would be a interessting photo. You did it with your other birdphotos.
Your logo is very easy to photoshop away so I guess it's just to let people know it's your photo...but I can't read your name in normal size.
Big advise: the contrast and colours and keep goind with the good thing!

I added more contrast per your advice
I didn't want to over do it - it seemed to also make the colors more saturated.

Thank you for taking the time to write a critique! Maybe I will try another shot with the contrast - the window did make it loose some. Also, this has been cropped vertically, so I could make it off center if I wanted
I did not use a tripod, but for many of the shots that I took of bluebirds that day, I was resting my lens with my hand against the window.

Ah I understand a tripod is nice but you need to deal with reflections on the window then and you're not so flexible. I still love the photos of the birds they are very good!

The photo overall is nicely composed. It is very clear and great depth of field. I really like how you caught the bird looking straight at you. Even though that's just her head is built it looks like she didn't like you taking the picture. Which gives it a nice character. You don't think of little songbirds being mean or threatening often times. Also I like how you cropped the picture so the lower branch leads back to the bird, and its not distracting because of the repeated shapes.
What I think this photo is hurting on is contrast. all the colors seem to have a very close saturation. I think making the background a shade or 2 darker would really enhance the picture. You don't have to do anything too drastic to make the photo pop.

I love this! Cute but deadly! Wonderful shot!
Birds are probably one of the most expressive creatures on Earth, I think. And this little puffball takes the crown!

She is again, adorable. It's really fun to see how much the perceived expression changes when the angle to the bird's head changes... I get to see it often with the birds I work with!

Most end up looking so angry from the front
What kind of birds do you work with?

They do!
I'm a falconer and work with an American Kestrel on a daily basis, but I have worked with Red-tailed Hawks and once bathed a Cooper's Hawk. Occasionally I'll try to work with parrot family things as they come in to the animal shelter I work at, but they make me nervous!

It is a lot of fun It's really hard to let them go, but that's something I opted for not doing this year... Next year, though, it's going to be even harder, since I would have worked with the same bird for two seasons!
