You're using DAZ Studio, right? I'm a Poser user and I have always found DS's controls confusing -- so I don't know if this will work for you, but one thing that has helped me a lot with lighting is that I have recently realized that in Poser the control that lets you change which camera you're looking through will let you look from the point of view of each of the lights in your scene as well. So, I look through the light as if it were a camera and then adjust the xtran, ytran, and ztran dials to get the light to go up, down, or side to side as I need. It's much easier for me to figure out where the lights are and what they're doing this way.
There are a lot of good tutorials on Youtube. Go to YouTube and type in "Daz Studio Tutorials" and you'll find a ton of stuff that should help.
My main piece of wisdom, though, is this: Keep at it. The more you play around with the program and experiment, the more it will start to make sense to you. Both Poser and DS have gotten more complicated with each new version. However, there's a lot of stuff that you will never use and don't need to worry about. Keep tinkering and you'll find your way around!
