You did a really good job, especially on the butterflies. The use of perspective is very effective. The color palette is pretty daring but not inherently distracting. The bright pink draws attention to the bottom of the picture and around the paintbrush, which would otherwise not draw as much focus because the paintbrush is very muted in color. I think if you had made the tip of the paintbrush bright yellow, it would have further helped make it appear significant. The way she's holding it makes it look like she's not actively painting, just observing the results of her finished work.
The butterflies are the most eye-catching visual element and the perspective draws the focus onto the painter in the basket. The clouds also help to generate circular flow. I agree with FerrythePogona that the basket looks mismatched with the rest of the picture. I think the heavy, black top edge looks too dark because it can be assumed that the sky is illuminated, so unless the rim is very narrow and curves outwards like the edge of a cooking pot, there shouldn't be such a deep shadow. I understand that you can't really edit traditional works afterwards, unlike digital works, but maybe you will observe the balance of light and shadow more in the next piece. Good luck with the competition!

Thank you for your comment!!
I agree with you on the basket, Actually it was the part of the drawing in which I worked less. I will definitely keep in mind the balance of light and shadow, that's one of the things I struggle the most, because I always feel like the lighting in my drawings ended up being a little dull

Hi I'm from ProjectComment and I found your piece, and wanted to give you constructive criticism on where I think your painting is strong and other parts where things could be improved.
For me, the biggest strength of your piece is the beautiful display and meshing of colours that really helps convey the title very well--and it's even more impressive given the fact that this was done with traditional materials. The majority of the painting is taken up by the group of butterflies flying together, and to me this another strength as it creates a peaceful and natural composition. Also, I think I just realised: is this meant to be some sort of hot-air balloon that is made up of butterflies? That's a clever idea! The background is simplistic and contrasts the colour of the butterflies with its more purple and blue hues.
As for things that could be improved, I would start off with the hot air balloon "basket" or thing that the girl is inside. It seems very two dimensional and this seems very out of place given how three dimensional the butterflies look. I would perhaps look at a reference to help get the shape better. However, I cannot see many other flaws, so well done, your piece is well crafted with a very good style!
I hope you found my constructive criticism useful Keep up the good work

Thank you for your feedback!
I think you hit the nail! I have to admit that I was a little lazy when drawing the basket and really all I did was give it a random texture without looking at references

What to say about this piece?, i found it's intended purpose (reflected by the title) absolutly fullfiled, it ilustrates the "Painting of the Spring", i like the butterflies in the upper part of the picture, and their 3d effects are perfect (they don't seem plain in the slightest) and it gives the picture that refreshing feeling that you expect from spring, the shadowing you did with the butterflies also contributes a lot to make the picture fantastic, alive, and pretty, in reference to the painter in the lower part, the fantastic concept of it's fly in a balloon carried by the butterflies gives it a good taste of surrealism that makes the picture even better, this kind of art is something i would like to see in the front of a book, the sky it's really, really elaborated, and the fact that every part of this picture seems to have come from the hand of the painter (due to the instrument in it's hand) makes a kind of "wink" to the surrealism that certainly plays a good role in the picture, my good friend, your art is something great, impressive, and i would love to see this one wining the constest you submited it to, keep up the good work and keep bringing your beautiful art to Deviantart!

Thank you for your comment!! I've been really trying to give my drawings a more surreal feel and it's always exiting when your intentions in a work are understood by someone else than yourself xD

Ooh thank you, originally I thought of making the butterflies translucent, exactly like stained glass, (I discarded the idea because it was a little hard to draw it) so it's kinda cool you see that effect here
