Description
An ethnic group chained to the past, surrounded by the modern world.Eventually, people bend.
Their morals are sound. Their beliefs are deep.
I respect people like this so much, I can't begin to describe. They are solid. Things that aren't material mean so much to them.
Maybe a few of you will say I have crossed lines by taking photos of Amish people.
Let me first tell you that I did not go out seeking to take photos of them.
Let me also explian that these are Amish people working in a downtown city market. Not exactly what I'd call orthodox Amish.
Lastly, I would like to tell you, for your own peace of mind that I did not offend anyone that I shot. I was respctful, and not invasive.
If you don't like it, please just move on.
Respect.

It's a nice image. Just a word of advice, I wouldn't be so hostile to people in the description, it kind of asks for hostility back, which is the opposite of what you seem to want. If you assume people are going to be hostile to you... well, then they will!

I absolutely love the feeling I get from this picture. That, just another day at work, feeling.
Great capture. Love it.

It's like, bam.
The emotion.
And what a different place for an Amish person to be present..

This is a great shot. My favourite thing about it is that little paper menu beyond the customer on the counter.
We have lots of Amish working in shops and things like that where I live, in Amish country, aka, Holmes County, Ohio. Well, actually they are not Amish, they are Mennonites but just a branch off. Sad how people still have to 'bend' their wills to have a living.

this man isn't amish. he's probably a menonite. it's basically a lax version of being amish. they can use basic tools and things. for example, he has buttons on his shirt. the amish only use hooks and eyes and only dress in black... anyway, just thought i'd clarify. lovely pick. i don't mean to sound like an ass haha i just wanted to let you know.

The amish around me sometimes dress like the guy in the photo, especially when they have to for a job, and not all of them dress in all black, usually it's black pants and a colored/grey/white shirt.
Mennonites in my area typically wear button up shirts and jeans, and the woman usually have a floral print dress on.
Also, amish aren't as primitive as people think. Some do have cell phones and many have a phone somewhere like in the barn, but rarely in the house. They use it for emergencies and business. (I've worked with and for both amish and mennonites and they both live all around me, so that's how I know some of it haha)
I live near Lancaster County in Pennsylvania

haha nice I live in NE Ohio and have run across a little different story. Maybe your PA amish are less traditional haha. I hope no amish are offended by that, and I hope none read this...

Did you ask permission before you took the picture?
You were respectful and offended no one, but can you do that without asking permission first?

The color in the film has more depth than any filter in photoshop.
You're a gem Jules. No matter how many times I spend drooling over your gallery, there's still so much more to see.

Very nice shot. To me it gives that feeling you get when someone meets eyes for a split second.
My dad worked with an Amish man a long time ago in Texas on a dairy. He worked there doing the same things as everyone else, but didn't use the soldering iron. I don't see why they can't get work doing something other than pulling a buggy.

Despite all the noise going on with the viewers losing sight of the picture and harping on about how right or wrong of you to take this picture (READ HIS DESCRIPTION, PEOPLE!) its a very nice photo. I honestly didn't know that the Amish usually went out and did jobs such as this. You learn something new everyday.. Thanks for that!

Their morals are sound. Their beliefs are deep. They don't wait for their children to grow up and choose what they believe in and reject them if they choose something different.
Religions poison everything.

very nice capture and explanation. true beliefs are kept in their hearts and are not compromised by the modern world, that's something that should be respected. it is sad that their world is being ruined, but if their choice is to allow modern elements to come in their lives and don't allow those to corrupt them, they are the moral winners. i always respected that community because they truly live what the preach but they also give each youngster a choice whether they wish to continue or move on with different lifestyle.
