Description   Although i have made it clear that there are some things about the Sonic Boom series that i dont like, im pumped for the game and i really like how they desighned Tails! Took four hours. I put the lighting source at a really odd angle and it was pretty difficult to get the shadows just right and im sure i could have still done better. [UPDATE] I Changed his mouth at some point. Anyone notice? Enjoy!

I love how Tails looks serious, but still manages to be frickin' adorable.
By the way, I love your YouTube channel. Your videos are pretty much what I put on every time I turn on YT. Remember the Cardboard Silver cake you found on Twitter? (I thought I was your perfect slice of pizza) That was me!
I have to say, seeing that you commented on the post made my year. Thanks so much!

Tell Cardboard Silver he tastes like chocolate.

Whenever I ask someone about if they know who Tails is, they go: "omfg that guy he is so stooooped like deh serius" I then come home disappointed, watch a YTP, and then suddenly I am here. It is like a safe haven! Tails has been my fav character since I played Sonic rush in 2007 or something: when there wasn't many split screen games. This got off topic XD

why does no one seem to remember what tails' belt buckle looks like? it's shown very clearly in the trailer for the cartoon....

MyRedYoshi In reply to Foremem [2014-02-23 03:43:48 +0000 UTC]

Does it really matter that much? Not sure it worth your time to tell me that. Besides, if i really wanted to make a dead-on exact pic of him, i would have used reference art and concept research. I chose not too because as an artist, i like to he more creative than robotically acurite. I dont mind constuctive critisism, but this isnt constructive because i dont want the belt buckle to be accurite. I dont expect you to reply, just wanted you to know this stuff. if you had good intentions by saying this, then pardon me for misunderstanding you.

I was just curious as to the why/how and it was less a criticism than just a question.

Oh, well in that case, I have no clue XD Maybe they dont care for exact accuracy either.

Foremem In reply to MyRedYoshi [2014-02-23 06:36:50 +0000 UTC]

Really I think the belt buckle is the only thing I specifically remember about the design so I probably wouldn't notice if any other details were off if the belt buckle was in the picture.
I'll give you this though, at least you GAVE him a buckle. MOst artist seem to forget he had one entirely. Which I just don't get.

MyRedYoshi In reply to Foremem [2014-02-23 06:53:38 +0000 UTC]

Well, I had no idea weather he had one or not, i just thought it would be a nice touch. Im a big SEGA fan and a HUGE Sonic fan and while i love learning the details of the characters desighn and background, i understand that not everyone will be perfectly accurate. Im sure most people really dont care about perfect accuracy, they just draw. I once wanted to draw Tails as he's designed in Sonic Riders but as my style of art goes, I made his forehead-fur much bigger than normal to give it a more cartoony/cute look. Because of this, there was insufficient room for his goggles and so i leaft them out to fit my style instead of being accurate.

1:25 mark, It is an awesome buckle.
But yeah, you did a great job regardless, i'm just a llittle obsesive at times.
....
Okay, I'm VERY obsesive, but that's sort of my thing.

Something about this pictur gives it a 3D effect. But I can't extract exactly what that is.

MyRedYoshi In reply to SilverSongWolf [2014-02-22 03:33:29 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. Its all about the shading and shadowing effects. It takes a while but it makes any art look far more realistic.

SilverSongWolf In reply to MyRedYoshi [2014-02-22 14:07:02 +0000 UTC]

Yup. I can definitely agree with that. Man, I'd love to know how to do 3D stuff. Or even just what you you do, because it's pretty close to giving it that 3D effect.

MyRedYoshi In reply to SilverSongWolf [2014-02-22 16:07:43 +0000 UTC]

I'v been meaning to make a tutorial. Maybe i'll work on that soon. Every shaded pic must start with a light source [An area were light is shining] You may be able to see that the light source here comes from the upper left corner making the top of Tails head a lighter color. The colors slowly get darker as you travel down the head because the light cant reach that area. The same goes for every circular part of this pic such as his arms and legs. Because of the light source angle, his head blocks the light from reaching certain areas underneath it. See how near the top of his leg, the colors get suddenly very dark? Thats a shadow being cast by his head. The best way to get better at seing were to make shadows is to look at things in real life such as spheres or even your own hand. Then when you sit down and look at your art, you can see were it would make sense to shade. Sorry for boring you with this long comment XD

Solid stuff. Im not big on OC's or FC's but i like your angular style and colorful backgrounds. I also appreciate that you mainly stick to traditional art even though it seems everyone in these modern days only care about digital.

SilverSongWolf In reply to MyRedYoshi [2014-02-22 19:03:36 +0000 UTC]

I on,y reason I do mostly digital is because I'm still getting used to the idea of using and playing around with the Sketchbook app that I have on my iPad. Plus, I've been drawing digitally for about...4 or 5 years now. So of course, it's only natural that I'm better at drawing on paper than on a screen.

Thanks so much. Yah thise shadows take a LONG time too and sadly i cant listen to music while i do them because it requires more concentration than balancing a pencil on its led XD

SarcasticLeaves In reply to MyRedYoshi [2014-02-23 21:50:25 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome! =^_^= If you don't mind me asking, you you use a tablet for your digital pieces or a mouse?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MyRedYoshi In reply to SarcasticLeaves [2014-02-24 05:33:25 +0000 UTC]

Im glad you asked. I use a mouse but I do all my art traditionaly, scan it on to my PC then carefully trace everything digitaly using a curved-line tool. If im drawing with a mouse free-handed its a terrible mess XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SarcasticLeaves In reply to MyRedYoshi [2014-02-24 22:39:38 +0000 UTC]

I completely understand, I've been there. Though I didn't have the curved-line tool, so everything was free-handed and it was a very terrible mess in my case. XD If I didn't do that I would ink everything traditionally then scan it into the computer to color. When I got my tablet I still did a lot of sketches traditionally and inked and colored them on the computer. I still do that on a good portion of my stuff.
