Description I thought this woman was amazing. She was so quick and intelligent. Her husband was a drummer and there to sit in with a Dixieland band.

That could easily be what she's feeling. For some reason, hanging out with the wives and lovers of band members (no matter what age!) is stultifying. I just HATE it! Thank god for my camera. She was way too smart and alive to be sitting at a table of 'band wives'.

I know that is a huge generality about band wives... but I've been around them for a long long time now... and I'd say that well over 60 percent of those who follow their men to a gig are not fun to say the least.

I wonder why that is? Are they jealous of the attention their hubby's are getting? You'd think they'd be use to that part anyways

I have found in my many years of knowing musicians and their wives... that the wife is most often someone they've met in a bar... maybe even a groupie sort of person. they generally have no aspirations of their own. Okay, so now I've vented... a bit.. and I could be wrong. It could be that it's just that the musicians all have something in common, but the wives/lovers are thrown together... each with various backgrounds and interests and so there is little or no common ground.

And, to be fair, that is something I've found to be generally true... but not always. I have a few good friends who are closely associated with musicians... and they are just great! ... and rarely go to gigs... like me. I only go if I think I can take pictures without anyone noticing or if I'm getting paid for it.

Jealousy... sometimes... when you are young especially, you go to keep an eye on your man. So many women and so few men on the stage. LOL

What you say makes perfect sense, yes the musicans have alot in common, the love of music and what they do........but the wives all different and maybe don't even care so much about the music and feel forced to go or whatever. I'm glad you have a camera to keep you occupied!

That looks like a face hardened by years of having to put up with drumming practise in a small home - love it .

You know, it was late and I do believe she had a longish drive ahead of her. Up here, everyplace is a long ways away!

She was a great person... adorable and funny.

It's a great picture, the colours are fantastic. She looks like she's about to throw some comment across the table in your direction!

She may have been going to say something to me. I had told her I wanted to do a few photos of her.. and I told her to just do anything she liked. The others were all blurred. This was the best anyway...

Amazing colour. How did you shoot this? if i may ask?

How many countless nights has she sat like this talking to strangers
and waiting to hear her husband play?

She's probably sat too many nights. She was bright and quick... very intelligent and interesting... and most likey BORED. If it weren't for my camera I'd be bored too.

I took the shot with just the light from an overhead hanging fixture. While she was in the bathroom I moved the table just a bit so the light hit her right. I waited for a relatively still moment when she wasnt laughing or talking and there you are....slowish shutter, very low incandescent light.
