I love it's tail and eye, very nice job on a dragon in motion by the way. I also really like how you did his back. Here's another one of those little photoshop tips I have, this time for the sky.
I remember that filter now, the cloud one. Well, let me be the first to say that if you look outside on a sunny day, it doesn't look at all like clouds.

Anyway, as you can see, clouds take on more of their own shape and form. Well, to do this, there are several brushes in photoshop that can help with clouds. What version do you use by the way?
Anyway, the best way, I find, to make good clouds is to draw them as if you're making a bunch of circles that are being moved by wind. meh, I have to go to school now, so I'll cut this short, but I can find a cloud tutorial afterschool for you if you want.

I use Photoshop 5.5

And I had found one, but it was for 7.0, and half of the tools I hadn't heard of.
And like I said before, this is just a hobby. I don't do this for money, just for fun.

ah yes, I used to have 5.5 ^_^ Nice version, basically has about everything minus a few brushes that PS7 has.

yeah, but like I said, you don't have to do this for money in order to work on getting better -_^

Nah, but it's something I enjoy doing, and that includes playing with filters. If I had to spend 2-3 hours per piece just to get it 'nice' and improve...I'd quit doing it. At that point it ceases to be fun, and becomes more like a chore.

well, actually, as I practice more, I can do it much faster and it makes it more enjoyable than when I used to use tons of filters and all taht. For instance, the actual coloring on something like this: [link] takes me like 20 minutes as compared to a picture of that same type taking maybe a few hours before I worked at getting better. and then again, things like [link] that take about five hours in total or so to complete don't make me like art less, but more in fact, because I'm happy with what I can do.

I've always been told that the only way to never improve is to throw off any form of help, and not to even contimplate getting better by it. If you don't want any help, put critique discouraged on your art. Remember, not even the best of artists are ever perfect, and learning to get better does not make art less enjoyable.

What I mean is, I improve....it's just slow, and it's mostly with the lineart. Some people just get better faster. Some people just don't have time to practice with some things.

I do not have time. There are things I must do, pictures I must complete within a certain timeframe--namely, those cyberpets. Occasionally, if I have time, I'll do some shading or somewhat with minimal filter use.

I am not getting paid for this, nor am I getting graded for this. And I know I'm far from perfect (now go tell my co-workers that, ok?) I know my limitations, I know my drawing scope is rather limited, and my 'coloring skills' are rather dismal. Hoever, I like to draw, and I like making things pretty. I'm not sure why people think people have to improve on every part of art in a certain timeframe.

And in my opinion, someone telling me 'Don't use filters' is not any help.

Well, I did not just state to not use filters, but I also tried to give some tips on what I thought could look better, and what you could use to touch it up.

okay, here's a more in-depth thing. try messing with the opacity or the flow when you draw *if you're using the airbrush* and in order to create highlights use your color with a low opacity and the settings on 'screen' and you will get bright highlights and it's much easier to control than the dodge tool. To darken things, use multiply, or just a darker color. But, that's not the only way to do things, there are many, and filters CAN help, but if you overuse them, it's obvious such as when someone peppers their art with lense flairs or something like that.

Time is often a problem, I understand, so I don't expect you, or anyone, to try and make an ungodly change in a day. Perhaps over a months time work on adding your own clouds instead of the cloud filter, they can be done rather quickly and still look good actually. And then perhaps later you can work on something else. I'm sorry if you seem to have taken my attempts at advice as an attack, as generally I never expect the artist I'm talking to to change overnight, but to at least be open to new ideas, and, if they have time, try them maybe. Not act as if change is impossible.

Change is not immposible. It just takes longer for some people.

That...is a bunch of garble to me. I work with visual, and typed words are the equivilent of spoken words to me. My mind does not work the same, and perhaps I am too old to change, to set in my ways.

Drawing is not fun anymore.

Aright, I'm sorry. Let me just say that I DO in fact like your art ^_^ You have interesting characters and everything, perhaps I'm just being very bigheaded myself.

well, if you do want any help, I could probably take some screenshots to show what I mean, but only if you want to.

sorry for bothering you.

I dunno.

Like I said, I just draw for fun. Even if my drawings aren't that good.

*snuggles it* Awww, that's way too cute!!! I love the pose, and the design is awsome. Asharnanae came up with a neat dragon design, and of course your dragons always rock. ^^

I think it looks really neat, the face and wings look great but I think the tail looks a bit short. OR maybe too thick at the end instead of tapering off. But that might be they way it's suposed to be ^-^;; Never the less it's still really nice!

myrror In reply to ChibiSilverWings [2005-02-08 07:41:23 +0000 UTC]

How about the 'I ran out of paper' excuse?

Very well could be too short, though I don't think it would taper with that wicked blade at the end of it...would need some muscle to hold it on. So the length is probably not enough.

Or the base is too thick. Is what I get for trying to do a curvy twisty pose

well I know how you mean, running out of paper XD it happens to the best of us. I think you pulled off the pose fairly well though... *sorry this took so long to reply*

I like the pose!! ^^ It looks pretty good. I think his left wing looks a bit odd at the tips.

myrror In reply to seraaches [2005-02-08 04:24:00 +0000 UTC]

The whole thing is odd there, I think. The wing is supposed to be behind the tail, as he's diving/turning/curving, but I think I added a couple extra lines there or something.

The pose? I'm not particually fond of the left wing/body connetion, I tried to fix it, but that looks slightly wonky to me.

That could be it

nah its not that....its just...it dosnt seem to settle right...it might be the outline

myrror In reply to DestinyKnight27 [2005-02-08 03:58:10 +0000 UTC]

Very well could be. I'm not very good at written description only, and my 'ansyness' probably came through in the drawing.
