Before being saddled with the burden of being the Leader of the Autobot Race, Hot Rod and Arcee were "kind of" an item and would have probably went on to become a romantic couple had Optimus Prime not died. At any rate, once Hot Rod became Rodimus Prime, Arcee and Springer became the power couple of Season 3.Curiously enough, in Japan's HEADMASTERS series (their G1 Season 4), it appeared that Arcee and Springer were no longer an item and Arcee and Chromedome seemed to have something going on (?).

I am trying to figure that one out since she seemed to pining for Rodimus in that one. He would not even let her go with him to find a new planet. She had to babysit Daniel? Seriously? He has his parents. I think something was wrong with the writers.

Yeah, that was kind of odd. Maybe the Matrix neuters an Autobot's libido for the sake of necessity?
The writing in the Headmasters was kind of wacky nuts overall so we can't be too surprised at the oddities.
