Going back to the US G1 Cartoon, I was always just a little surprised that we didn't see more (or any) Dinobots vs. Terrorcons battles. To me, it seemed a natural fit...robotic dinosaurs vs. robotic monsters. But the powers that be didn't see it that way, preferring to pit the Technobots (Grimlock's creations) against the Terrorcons. The closest we ever got was an off screen fight in the episode "Call of the Primitives." Anyways, I decided that since there's no (as far as I can tell given Google) fan art of Terrorcons fighting Dinobots, I decided to commission the talented Nicodemus Rexx to do a piece where the most powerful Dinobot, Grimlock, takes on the most powerful Terrorcon, Hun-Gurrr. Basically, the 2 most powerful Primitive TFs from G1 going toe to toe.About the artist, you can see more of his work @ www.deviantart.com/th4rldeal
Nicodemus has done work for 3rd party toy company Keith's Fantasy Club (KFC) Transformers with their layouts for the toy packages, and he did the colors for the Transistor (3rd party Blaster) comic book (www.deviantart.com/m3gr1ml0ck/… line art by Dan Brenus). Lastly, Nicodemus also did the art for the "Henchman" card game from Clarion Game Studios and is working on the expansion coming out this year.

I always considered the Dinobots should take on Predaking, aka: The Predacons. That the Predacons had a Gestalt mode while the Dinobots did not (then anyway) seemed like an unfair fight.

Well at least the cartoon gave us some Dinobot vs. Predacon action: in "Call of the Primitives," Headstrong and the Predacons basically start a fight with Grimlock and the Dinos, in another episode we got to see Grimlock fling Razorclaw aside like a rag doll, and in the UK Marvel comic, there was an exclusive Dino vs. Predacon fight centering on Swoop and Divebomb. As far as Volcanicus goes, a lot of fans don't like him but I see him as the natural evolution of the Dinobots. I mean at this point, every 5 man TF group combines...it starts to make the Dinobots look antiquated if they can't form a combiner as well.

I like the IDEA of a Dinobot combiner but I don't like the toys for it. And I don't care for the name, Volcanicus. There was a third-party one with the best name, EXTINCTION. That third-party one was AWESOME and Takara/Hasbro could learn a lot from some of the third-party figures/collector's toys.

That's a good point...no one's really nailed the engineering design for a Dinobot combiner yet. I do love the name Volcanicus though.

Volcanicus sounds like the name of a WWF Wrestler from the 1990s. LOL. That is all I can think of when I hear the name.

Thanks! As far as I know - and I'm only as good as Google's search engine - this is the only Grimlock vs. Hun-Gurrr artwork anywhere on the internet. That's why I wanted to do this project because it was a matchup that was long overdue and I was shocked no one had done it yet (if there is vs. art out there, it's pretty rare).

Oh man yeah, they're such a great matchup for the exact reasons you outlined in the description. I was always kinda disappointed we never got to see it happen in G1!
