The game has never shown much character development in terms of love and relationships except that famous scene on top of death mountain and a few others that may qualify but I felt that scene wasn't deserved. There just wasn't any tangible build up to that level of relationship between Crono and Marle. Sure there were a few scenes early in the game where you could answer her questions but that was too early and could be placed in the friends category. There was also that wedding scene on the PSX version but again if they had put in a gap of time or some indication of it between the end of the game and that wedding, I would of believed it.

There wasn't anything interesting between Crono and Lucca but if they were beyond friends the game has never blatantly shown it and they would of been more than just friends after have known each other for so long. It leaves a possible side of Lucca I could exaggerate in the comics that could work well with her love of robots, technology and weird stuff any nerd could be into including frogs.

Aye, the initial dream scene when they go to 65 mil threw me off, they hadn't really developed the characters in that respect and the romance felt forced.

Everyone has their own personal fanon in the way they write seperate characters. I personally write Lucca as someone who can't spit it out and such when I make attempts into Chrono Trigger. Within your story, I get the feeling that there is much more to those two characters, and maybe Frog because of his aim, whereas Marle seems a much more likeable than she was in the game.
