Description
Princess Tutu fanart! In my art style of course, because I'm not drawing the cutsie series style. And I say some rather spoilish stuff in the comments, so beware.This has got to be the most girly anime I could ever stomach. The title alone kept me at bay for ages, until I finally started watching it when a friend/roommate of mine borrowed it from another friend of ours. And yeah, the first season was girly, but I admired the animation and ballet art so much that I was willing to put up with a fairly cutsie plot.
And then the second season started. I've never seen such a cute anime get so freaky serious. O_o That, and it started to do some really cool stuff. The idea that the narrator became the main villain because he wanted a tragedy and not a happy story was a really unique concept. So despite the cuteness, I have come to see this as a pretty good series. The only thing I'd change about it is the name and one little-yet-vitally-important detail at the end (anyone who's seen it probably knows what I'm talking about). Oh, and Ruu's Princess Clair dress. That thing's hideous, and lacking in fabric.
The characters here are my favorite of the series, and my favorite pairing. I was a fan of the Ahiru/Fakia pairing long before the series even hinted at it, and when Ahiru started hanging out more with Fakia than Mute, and then Mute ended up choosing Ruu over Tutu/Ahiru, I cheered. I'm not a big romantic, but I love it when a series goes my way.
Ahiru was annoying to me at first, but she grew on me. That, and she also matured a bit, and thus became my second favorite character. I'm still not forgiving the series for her magical girl name though. Princess...Tutu? Maybe that sounds cool to the Japanese, but to anyone speaking English...ugh.
Fakia just rocks. He starts off as a bit of a jerk, but can you blame him? He's trying to protect his friend and stop the story from starting. You would too if your role was to be the knight who gets TORN IN HALF. >_O And in the second season, he becomes the embodiment of "the pen is mightier than the sword", and ditches his sword for a pen to write the story how HE thinks it should end. The idea of a character having the power to influence reality based on what he writes is just too cool. And as a writer myself, I can really relate with this character.
Art is in my style, obviously. The other style was just too cute for me to draw. I may be a girl, but I'm still more a shounen fan than shoujo. Despite my having a shoujo art style. Leave me alone.
Characters are in their school clothes, because I felt like it. ^_^ Besides, the girl uniforms were pretty cool. Love the jacket look.
Coloring taken from the anime, for the most part. I didn't have exact screenshots, so I just used an AMV and kinda eyed the coloration from there. This series is really...pastel. o_O And how the heck does a yellow duck end up with pink hair in human form? No clue.
Background was not me, for the most part. I got it from a Princess Tutu wallpaper I found ages ago, so I don't really know who to give credit to. The only ting I did was bleach the background, added the border and text, and copied the Japanese Princess Tutu logo from another wallpaper.
This was a pretty fast pic. I just did it because a friend of mine found a REALLY COOL Princess Tutu AMV [link] and that got me wanting to draw. Besides, despite the coolness of the vid and song, it didn't have enough Fakia in it, so I needed to do him some fanart justice.
If some people don't recognize names, it's probably because you've got the butcher-translation that the DVDs are. Ahiru=duck in Japanese, so for some reason they decided to call her "Duck" in the English version. That's not cool; you don't translate names. Otherwise, Yugi from Yugioh would walk around with the name "Game". And Kenshin from Ruoruni Kenshin would be "Heart of Sword", or something like that. Basically, I use the fansub names because I find them better. Here are other names:
Fakia=Fakir
Mute=Mytho
Ruu=Rue
Clair=Kraehe
Princess Tutu is copyright to the creator Ikuko Itoh, director Junichi Sato, and ADV Films for it's terrible English botch of translation.

I love this. Composition is great, colors are good, they look like themselves, and I love how they're dancing together.
Man, that show was so bizzare. I loved it for the same reasons you did. I liked the Mute/Ahiru pairing at first, but then they developed Fakia so at the end of the first half I was so sad for him. Then it all worked out. Yay for happily ever after! (He was so writing the Ugly Duckling at the end.)

Okay, I'm gonna skip over your artist description, cuz I have yet to see this anime, but I've read good reviews of it. I wanna see someday, but yes, this is very cute! I like your style better, cuz yeah, tis more realistic than the other chibi/bighead canon style. lol, but yay! tis very pretty! I like this!

Well, 'Princess Tutu' and 'Nowhere University' actually mesh quite nicely.
'Princess Tutu' has stories coming to life.
'Nowhere University' has characters from different stories as teachers.
So, we might see some of them at NU.
btw, if you look at the credits, the Prince's name is Mytho. For some reason, the dub pronouces it Mewtow.

Great piece! You draw the characters nicely (though I haven't seen that show). Great poses. The art is arranged well.
Man, that music video ROCKS!! I actually want to watch the show now. I feel like kicking some serious booty now.

Love it. ^^ So great to see more art for this under-appreciated series.
I agree with most of your thoughts about the series. But being a romantic myself, I loved the Fakir/Ahiru development (probably a little too much). Fakir is also my favorite character. His character development was a real joy to watch. I also rather liked Rue by the end, too. She becomes a sort-of heroine herself and overcomes her past. ...I would go way more into detail on things, but it's late and I'm tired. lol But I'm glad you were able to appreciate it even if you don't care much for shoujo-type things. The story and characters are well worth it, in my opinion. Even if the name of the series repulses what could have been a decent fanbase for the anime.
I really like the poses you drew them in. Very fitting to the ballet/dancing theme in the series and their expressions are true to character. And I particularly like how you did Fakir. But they both also look really neat in your style. ^^ Good work with the cel-shading, too.

Your style makes them look better (especially Fakir) and I'm a fellow "Dump the Prince and take the Knight" fan as well. I wish that there was a season 3 but I am happy with most of the ending. Also just to caution, the tv series was waaay better than the manga.

Yeah. My friend had the two volumes, and man...that stank. It lost all the cool parts and added a whole slew of annoying ones.
Thanks! I like how Fakir came out as well. He looks pretty cool. Of course, he's just cool in general. ^_~

That's what I thought too. I mean, Tutu worked well with the prince, but Tutu was only part of what Ahiru was. Fakir fit the real/complete Ahiru better. And after the prince's little raven issue in the second season, he fit Rue better anyways.
Thanks for the comment!
